Job Description:
Slow paced yet rapidly growing firm seeks a skilled and motivated paralegal to join the team. Burnt out from the big-law machine? Tired of being barked at by a punk in a suit all day? Want a change of scenery? Lets see if we're a good fit.
As a paralegal, you will play a vital role in assisting with case management, client relation management, conducting legal research, drafting documents, as well as providing administrative support. Most importantly, you will get paid for it and not hate your life in the process.
We open for business at 10:00 a.m. in case you're a slow riser or need to get the kiddos to school.
We're relatively young.
We're growing quickly.
We're relatively cool ( I think, but I am biased).
Responsibilities:
Conduct client intake;
Conduct legal research using LexisNexis and other resources;
Assist in drafting legal documents, including complaints, motions, and discovery requests;
Manage case files, including organizing documents, correspondence, and other materials;
Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional manner;
Coordinate and assist with hearings, depositions, and mediations;
Assist with trial and arbitration preparation, including organizing exhibits and witness materials;
Perform administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, filing documents, and maintaining office supplies;
Be a sane and decent human being. Extraterrestrials need not apply.
Requirements:
Experience with both the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Florida Rules of Civil Procedure;
Experience electronically filing with both ECF and Florida state filing portal;
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field;
3 years of experience working as a litigation paralegal, preferably in consumer protection (if you're going to be one of brave few to "overlook" this requirement, make damn sure you can make up for it with other skills or experience);
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Windows operating system;
Strong research skills and familiarity with legal research tools, particularly Lexis Nexis;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Patience of a saint to deal with "unique" clients;
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently;
Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy and organization;
A good sense of humor with a splash of sarcasm.
