GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Suffolk Public Schools : Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress / activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
STEM Academy at Booker T. Washington : Works under the guidance and supervision of Booker T. Washington Elementary Administration, the SABTW Instructional Specialist, and ODU Executive Director for the Center for Educational Innovation and Opportunity to support the STEM Academy at Booker T. Washington Elementary.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects, and some medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting,and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and noise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / TYPICAL TASKS

- Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures to maximize learning.
- Participates in PPTs and assists in developing Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) for students.
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Coordinates with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities, as needed.
- Collaborates with administrators and teaching staff to assess individual students' abilities and needs, including students with special needs, and familiarizes stakeholders with social work services.
- Acts as a resource for students and parents, providing counseling to support personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management, while serving as a liaison between home and school.
- Pursues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, conducting research, and maintaining relationships with institutions of higher learning and the business community.
- Organizes and maintains accurate and complete records, providing student information to prospective colleges and employers as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Assists in orienting new teachers and provides in-service training and guidance.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Co-facilitates inquiry-based and hands-on learning experiences in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
- Co-plans lessons with general education teachers to ensure inclusive instruction that meets the diverse needs of all students.
