Sugar Bowl Academy (SBA) is a fully accredited private independent school and gold-certified U.S. Ski & Snowboard club. The school is uniquely situated at 6,900 feet on Donner Summit at Sugar Bowl Resort in California, with both day and boarding school programs for grades 6 through 12 as well as athletic programs for ages 5 through 20. Position Overview
The Nordic Program Director and Head Coach is responsible for the success of all SBA Nordic Programs. This includes but is not limited to establishing the philosophy, designing the structure, recruiting, leading, and evaluating the staff, and developing student-athletes through a comprehensive long-term athlete development model. Emphasis will be placed on building a destination Nordic program, encouraging the participation of their families, fostering a Nordic community, and establishing a robust pipeline of Nordic participation for all SBA Nordic programs.
Professional Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Ability to oversee the business and programming plan of the Nordic programs and how it fits into the overall strategic plan of SBA.
- Skilled at troubleshooting, paying close attention to details and actively managing timelines and deadlines.
- Strong project management skills and ability to ensure consistency of programming and processes through proper written documentation. Organize, prioritize, and manage complex projects and processes.
- Strong knowledge and experience, including the current and ongoing pursuit of professional development and credentials related to Nordic skiing and competitive race programming and training.
- Strong team player with proven leadership skills, including effectively delegating, managing staff and volunteers, and working with the entire SBA staff, community partners, and Sugar Bowl Resort staff.
- Possesses excellent relationship and communication skills to work closely with coaches, parents, student-athletes, admissions candidates, and community partners.
- Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and proficiency in utilizing SBA's established platforms (i.e., Google Drive).
- Manage personal stress effectively and support staff in managing their stress.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and perform manual labor and coaching duties on steep, uneven, mountain-like terrain and often in inclement weather.
- Two years of directly related experience with increasing responsibility, Bachelor's degree, Level 100 U.S. Ski and Snowboard Nordic coach.
