Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists the Environmental Department in assuring compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulations as it relates to monitoring the environment and investigating sources of pollution and contamination. Provides technical support for various environmental projects and facility operations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Assists in collecting water samples as well as generating and maintaining records for sampling and site maintenance.
  • Provides Quality Assurance (QA) and inputs lab results data on a monthly basis to WQ database.
  • Gathers and processes materials for annual BMP report including (but not limited to): maps indicating crops grown, soil test results, recommendations and fertilizer application records, pump logs, canal/ditch cleaning and laser leveling records, sediment sump cleaning records & laser leveling records and documentation of BMP training by staff and growers.
  • Conducts Bi-weekly EWOD permit required sampling, monthly & quarterly Industrial wastewater permit required sampling, conducts annual, quarterly, and monthly Drinking Water sampling and assists with weekly & monthly ENV compliance inspections at mill and agriculture locations.
  • Operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting water collection sampling devices as well as laboratory equipment (pH meters, etc).
  • Assists in implementation of, transition to and management of electronic data management system for Environmental records, including inspection records, SOP's, permits, etc.
  • Assists in maintaining relationships and liaisons between SCGC, its Growers and regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other related projects and assignments as business dictates.

 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of laboratory sampling and analysis methods and procedures, required.
  • Understanding of basic regulatory provisions as they relate to Federal, State, and local environmental permitting requirements (CAA, CWA, OPA, NPDES, RCRA, EPCRA, etc.).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend and convey scientific information.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.
  • Proficient in operating a vehicle, computers and peripherals, water testing and sampling equipment as well as any other related testing equipment.
  • Bilingual – English and Spanish, preferred.

 

 

LICENSES REQUIRED:  Regular Class “E” Driver’s License

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree in field related to science or any combination of education, training, and work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties/responsibilities of this position.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory, industry and technical requirements as related to Federal, State, and local environmental regulations (CAA, CWA, OPA, NPDES, RCRA, EPCRA, etc).
  • MS Office suite, required.

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regular attendance is required during normal working hours.
  • Sitting, Walking, Standing, Kneeling, Crawling, Climbing, and Reaching
  • Lifting occasionally up to 25 pounds.
