Position Overview:
Sugar Creek Charter School's mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous, college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on academic preparation, college and career readiness, and life skills for success. We are seeking a mission-aligned, passionate, and dedicated Middle School English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will foster a love for reading and writing, implement engaging and rigorous instruction, and support the academic and social-emotional growth of all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management:
- Develop and implement standards-aligned lesson plans that enhance reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills.
- Use data-driven instruction to assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Create a structured and engaging classroom culture that encourages discussion, creativity, and independent thinking.
- Utilize differentiation strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students needing additional support or enrichment.
- Incorporate diverse texts, writing workshops, and technology to enhance student learning.
Student Support & Engagement:
- Build strong relationships with students and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations.
- Implement social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies to support student well-being and classroom engagement.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities.
- Ensure the safety of students at all times through consistent supervision and by following and implementing the school-wide behavior plan.
Collaboration & Professional Growth:
- Embrace a growth mindset by actively seeking and applying feedback to enhance instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
- Participate in planning and coaching sessions with curriculum leaders.
- Work closely with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and support staff to enhance student learning.
- Actively engage in professional development and seek opportunities for continuous growth.
- Contribute to the school community through team meetings, committees, and events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (required).
- Valid teaching license or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina (preferred).
- Experience teaching middle school ELA or related coursework (preferred but not required).
- Strong classroom management skills and a commitment to high expectations for all students.
