Position Overview:
Sugar Creek Charter School's mission is to eradicate generational poverty by providing a rigorous, college and career preparatory education for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, focusing on academic preparation, college and career readiness, and life skills for success. We are seeking a dedicated and mission-aligned Exceptional Children’s (EC) Resource Teacher to join our team. This role focuses on providing targeted academic and behavioral interventions for students with disabilities in a resource setting while supporting their success in the general education classroom.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about differentiated instruction, collaboration, and student advocacy, ensuring that students with exceptional needs receive the specialized instruction, accommodations, and support necessary for their academic and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Student Support:
- Provide small-group and one-on-one specialized instruction in a resource setting to address students' IEP goals.
- Implement evidence-based interventions and strategies that support student learning in reading, math, and writing.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive practices, co-teaching, and classroom accommodations.
- Use progress monitoring tools and formative assessments to track student growth and adjust instruction as needed.
- Ensure students are provided appropriate accommodations and modifications in alignment with their IEPs.
IEP Compliance & Case Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure compliance with IDEA and state regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, including IEPs, progress reports, and service logs.
- Facilitate and participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and data reviews.
- Collaborate with school counselors, interventionists, and service providers to support students with diverse learning needs.
Collaboration & Professionalism:
- Partner with general education teachers to ensure that students successfully access the curriculum in both resource and inclusion settings.
- Embrace a growth mindset by actively seeking and applying feedback to enhance instructional practices and student learning outcomes.
- Participate in planning and coaching sessions with curriculum leaders.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, goals, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and RTI (Response to Intervention) processes to identify student needs and appropriate interventions.
- Engage in professional development to stay current with best practices in special education, intervention strategies, and behavior management.
- Contribute to the school community through team meetings, committees, and events.
Classroom & Behavior Management:
- Implement individualized behavior support plans as needed to promote positive student engagement and success.
- Utilize de-escalation techniques and structured routines to foster a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Reinforce school-wide expectations while teaching self-regulation, coping skills, and social-emotional strategies.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Certification: Valid North Carolina teaching license with an Exceptional Children’s (EC) endorsement.
- Experience: Prior experience as an EC teacher, preferably in a resource or inclusion setting.
- Strong knowledge of IEP development, differentiated instruction, accommodations, and assistive technology.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
