Utilities Director Position Summary
Sugarbush Resort is seeking a highly qualified Utilities Director to join our Mountain Water team. The Utilities Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Sugarbush owned Utilities, including financial management, safety, compliance, permitting, construction, maintenance, operations, customer relations, reporting, staff, public relations, regulatory affairs, and more.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience managing water and wastewater treatment systems, with a Grade 2 State of Vermont Wastewater License and Grade 4B State of Vermont Water License. They will be responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating all functions associated with the operation of the Utilities Companies.
Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of Infrastructure: Ensure adequate maintenance of infrastructure, including the Water/Wastewater plants, pumps, pump systems, compressors, electrical components, telemetry, etc.
- Collaboration with Facilities Department: Work closely with the Facilities department in regard to snow removal/storm water plans, and the impact on road maintenance, ditches, and sediment basins.
- Maintenance Schedules and Documentation: Maintain adequate parts inventory for critical repair components, compile, and update maintenance schedules, and appropriate documentation.
- Disaster Response: Address issues dealing with potential disasters with respect to the environment and safety of the operating staff, including chemical, physical, or mechanical problems that arise at the facilities.
- Compliance and Regulations: Monitor all utility operations, ensuring that compliance with permit requirements and regulations is maintained.
- Emergency Response: Supervise/assist the handling of service line breaks, plant equipment malfunctions, and other emergencies.
- Construction and Repair Projects: Oversee all major construction and repair projects, including monitoring of work done by outside contractors.
- Budget Development and Management: Develop and maintain operational and capital budgets that ensure safe and proper operation of all facilities and meet long-term planning goals.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervisory responsibilities include planning and assigning staff work, training, evaluating job performance, interviewing, hiring, disciplining, terminating, and recommending wages/salaries.
- Daily Operations: Overseeing and assisting staff as needed in daily operations.
- Permitting and Reporting: Work with Planning Department to ensure all permitting and reporting requirements are met.
- Regulatory Affairs: Keep up-to-date and advise company officials on the implications of new regulations and technological developments in the field.
- Customer Relations: Maintain customer relations with the users of the systems.
Requirements:
- Licenses and Certifications: Minimum requirement includes Grade 2 State of Vermont Wastewater License, Grade 4B State of Vermont Water License, and at least 5 years of experience managing water and wastewater treatment systems.
- Vermont State Lab Certification: Able to maintain training hours and hazmat emergency response.
- Equipment Operation: Ability to use equipment such as pumps, compressors, and laboratory equipment.
- Mechanical Skills: Good mechanical skills with general knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to work outside for long periods of time in various weather conditions (rain, snow, wind, cold, and/or heat).
- Availability: Must be able to be available to work weekends and holidays.
- Access to Remote Areas: Must be able to gain access to remote areas of the resort with no mechanical assistance (walk in snow or wet areas, through trees, up steep slopes).
- Communication: Must be able to communicate effectively over the telephone, 2-way radio, and in person.
- Physical Exertion: Must be able to perform heavy work involving exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
- Driver's License: A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are required.
Estimated Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
