What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Biller position at SUGARLAND FAMILY PRACTICE?
Summary of Duties: Responsible for collecting, posting and managing account payments. Responsible for submitting claims, and following up with insurance companies. Responsible for managing aging accounts receivable reports.
Supervision Received: Reports to office manager and Physician/Owners of Clinic.
Essential Functions:
1. Process encounters/charge tickets and receipts for patient billing through EMR
2. Correct encounters for procedural and diagnostic coding as necessary
3. Balance charge and receipt summaries daily
4. Prepare and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper
5. Initiate insurance appeal process to insurance companies for incorrect payment, bundling, etc.
6. Answer questions from patients, staff and insurance companies
7. Identify patient billing inquiries and work with office manager to resolve
8. Work with patients to establish budget payment plans if necessary, and resolutions to clear balances
9. Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers, oversee electronic response reports from claim submissions.
10. Process payments from insurance companies and balance daily.
11. Manage insurance A/R to optimize reimbursement and revenue cycle
12. Continued training in order to comply with ongoing updates to medical billing standards
13. Maintain strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
Skills/Experience:
· Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices
· Knowledge of electronic medical software and practice management computer programs
· Knowledge of business office procedures
· Knowledge of medical coding (CPT and ICD-9)
· Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment
· Ability to utilize multi-line telephone system
· Skill in answering telephone and conducting patient contact in a pleasant and helpful manner
· Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public
· Must be well organized and detail oriented
· Ability to work well with co-workers and be effective team member
Education: High School Diploma or GED. Certified Medical Coder is preferable
