Overview:
The Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Gravity Trail Crew is looking for team members to join our efforts this summer in expanding Sugarloaf’s on-hill trail network and expert level gravity trails. If you enjoy working in a beautiful mountainous setting, take pride in working hard to achieve results, and don’t mind getting a little dirty along the way, this is the job for you.
Trail Crew team members must have expert-level mountain biking skills and have previous experience in trail construction and maintenance. Chainsaw certification or experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right fit. This full-time, summer season role will typically work four 8-hour days per week (typically Monday – Thursday) and may be required to work weekends as needed for mountain bike events. Responsibilities:
- shoveling, raking and walking/hiking on a daily basis
- hand tool and power tool use for trail clearing as needed
- be able to exert a considerable amount of effort to complete tasks (often hiking up to 3 miles with 30-50 lbs)
- have the ability to work in remote areas with limited vehicle / machinery access
- report to work each day with appropriate clothing, footwear, and gear needed to work in inclement weather and mountainous terrain
- be able to use mountain bike, vehicle, and/or eBike to access various building sites around the mountain
- be flexible to changing work responsibilities
- have (or be able to quickly gain) knowledge of existing Sugarloaf Gravity trails and must have the desire to ride this type of terrain
- respond to all customer and in house department questions in a timely manner
- attend meetings both internally and externally as needed
- set up and assist in the execution of Mountain Bike Gravity races and events as directed by Mountain Bike Sales Manager
- work closely with sales, events, mountain operations as needed to ensure proper execution of events
- complete or assist with other tasks as directed by Mountain Bike Sales Manager
- Must be a team player and safety oriented
- Must be flexible to changing work responsibilities
- Experience and interest in hand-building techniques for creating natural surface trails is a must.
- Must be able to take and follow direction; must be able to work independently as needed
- Must have expert-level mountain biking skills
- Knowledge of and experience with basic hand tools and basic rigging equipment is preferred
- Chainsaw certification or experience is required; can provide on the job training if needed
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver's license
