Location: Multiple New Mexico Locations (Las Cruces, Hobbs, Albuquerque, and more)
Compensation: $200 per class, up to $40,000 annually based on class delivery schedule and participation rates
Position Summary:
Seeking a Suicide Prevention Instructor to provide essential training to individuals and community members within the Santa Fe region, with potential to expand statewide. The instructor will deliver evidence-based suicide prevention training programs, including QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) and other mental health education, aimed at increasing awareness and empowering community members to intervene effectively in suicide crises.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, empathy, and a deep understanding of suicide prevention. QPR certification is preferred, but candidates with relevant experience in suicide prevention, mental health, or crisis intervention are encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Suicide Prevention Training: Facilitate in-person on suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and intervention strategies (QPR preferred).
- Community Outreach: Work closely with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and local leaders to promote training opportunities and engage with a diverse range of participants.
- Promote Training Programs: Utilize outreach strategies to ensure maximum participation in classes, including through social media, email campaigns, and direct engagement with local partners.
- Classroom Management: Manage training sessions, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. Adapt training materials to meet the needs of different audiences.
- Maintain Records and Reporting: Track attendance, collect feedback, and report on the success and outcomes of each training session to ensure continuous improvement.
- Provide Support and Resources: Offer resources, tools, and guidance to participants post-training, ensuring they are equipped to utilize the skills learned to prevent suicides in their communities.
- Stay Updated on Best Practices: Continuously improve knowledge of suicide prevention strategies, staying informed about new research, community resources, and best practices in mental health.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to clearly explain complex topics, present information effectively, and engage diverse groups of people.
- Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: Ability to connect with individuals on a personal level, demonstrating compassion and sensitivity in the training environment.
- Experience in Suicide Prevention or Mental Health: Knowledge of suicide risk factors, prevention strategies, and mental health issues. Prior experience delivering training or educational programs is a plus.
- QPR Certification (Preferred): Certification in QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer), or equivalent suicide prevention training, is preferred. If not already certified, the instructor must be willing to obtain certification prior to leading training.
- Community Outreach Experience: Proven ability to network and build relationships within diverse communities, especially in underserved or rural areas.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency with basic office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and digital platforms for virtual training (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.).
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, coordinate logistics for training sessions, and track progress toward goals.
- Cultural Competency: Understanding of and respect for the diverse populations in the Santa Fe region, with sensitivity to cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic differences.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available to travel within the Santa Fe region and potentially statewide as needed.
- Access to reliable transportation.
- Flexible schedule, with availability to work evenings and weekends depending on class schedules.
Compensation:
- $200 per class delivered, based on class size and schedule.
- Up to $40,000 per year based on the number of classes taught and attendance.
- Mileage reimbursement for travel outside of Santa Fe, if applicable.
