What are the responsibilities and job description for the Asphalt Grinder Operator position at Suit-Kote Corporation?
Overview: The Asphalt Grinder Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Grinder.
Safety Expectations: All Suit-Kote employees are required to comply with all safety rules and to observe safe work practices and operating procedures at all times. Whenever on Suit-Kote property or job sites, or operating Suit- Kote equipment, employees are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the safety of the employee, co-workers and others.
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
• Operate the Grinder and other heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
• Torching and welding as needed
• Understand and follow directions from supervisors as to required work area.
• Operate Grinder and conveyor while maintaining proper depth, cross slope, while loading material into dump truck. Operate Grinder around structures in tight places
• Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
• Operate Grinder on public or private roadways, maintaining proper awareness of ones surroundings.
• Perform routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth and safe operation of the Grinder.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Reliable transportation to and from work
• Strong work ethic
• Physical Organization and time management
• Flexibility in hours - overtime and weekend hours may be necessary
• Must have or be willing to obtain an OSHA 10 Hour Safety Certificate
• Consent to a DMV license evaluation
• Non-CDL Class C License with Hazmat & Tank endorsement
• Passing a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required and a background check will be conducted
Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Must be capable of using 4 pound hammer for two hours at shoulder height or higher
• Observe and comply with necessary PPE requirements
• Must be able to work in a noisy area with many odors present
• Bending, stretching, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing and squatting
Other Preferred Qualities:
• Ability to read and understand SDS
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• High school diploma or GED
• Basic math
Position is considered full time, but seasonal in nature, with anticipated lay-off in the November thru March time-frame. Site specific locations may have varying seasonal requirements that can extend or contract these timeframes.
