- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 software, mobile devices, and at least one ILS, preferably SirsiDynix Symphony.
- Capable of learning new software programs and technologies.
- Experience in cataloging, classification, and library materials processing.
- Independently perform the full range of professional librarian duties, including reference and readers’ advisory services, collection development and maintenance, and provide instruction in the use of library services and equipment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exemplify courteous behavior and creative problem resolution.
- Recommend and assist in the development of library policies and procedures, disaster recovery plan, and strategic planning.

Primary Responsibilities
Function: Librarian based at Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library with service to SRSU Library and Archives online and Eagle Pass Library Services.
Scope: SRSU Librarians may be responsible for a variety of areas depending on need. Technical Services includes activities related to the acquisition, processing, cataloging, maintenance, and eventual deaccessioning of a wide variety of formats and items for the holdings of the library. Collaborates with all staff. This position utilizes the integrated library system (ILS) SirsiDynix Symphony to create and maintain records, troubleshoot, and generally make resources available and usable. May be responsible for ordering, receiving, binding, and cataloging of physical books, eBooks, serials/periodicals, standing orders, and special items. May be responsible for updating and maintaining related policies relevant to industry standards and best practices. Works with Director and Operations Supervisor to ensure smooth procurement processes. May supervise Library Assistants and/or Student Assistants. Acts as public-facing librarian available for research consultations and instruction services. May be responsible for creating and maintaining research tutorials, guides, and other supporting documentation. Voting member of Faculty Assembly.
Duties
Essential:
- (45%) Contributes to all activities and services related to Technical Services.
- Physical and digital content acquisitions (collection development) for the library’s collections across all formats. May contribute to collection development for the Archives of the Big Bend.
- Cataloging and classification, specifically original cataloging.
- Serials/periodicals ordering and maintenance.
- Purchasing and data tracking for collection-related purchases.
- (35%) Acts as public-facing librarian available for research consultations and instruction services, participating in Librarian Office Hours/Reference Desk coverage, including nights and weekends.
- Creates/maintains Library Research Guides and Tutorials as a support service.
- Keeps current of trends related to technical services librarianship.
- Participates in strategic planning and workflow management of technical services department.
- (10%) Maintains accurate statistics, submits required reports and budget requests.
- (5%) Serves on University Committees, Faculty Assembly Councils, and other working groups in areas relevant to the position.
- (5%) Performs other reasonable duties as required by the supervisor.

Received: Director of Library and Archives.
Given: Depending on experience, may supervise Library Assistant in Cataloging, Library Assistant in Serials (part-time); Student Assistant(s).
Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.

Texas Law requires a 60 day waiting period before new state employees are eligible to enroll in health insurance.

Sul Ross State University Alpine Campus is in the Scenic Davis Mountains of West Texas, is a member of the Texas State University System, is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degrees, and has an enrollment of approximately 2,000 students of campus in Alpine, Texas.
