TITLE: SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Month
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
Sullivan BOCES is a seeking dynamic individual with excellent supervision and leadership skills to fill the role of Special Education Assistant Principal. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the principal and instructional programs.
Responsibilities will include: Act as principal in the absence of the principal; Act on student discipline matters; Maintain, interpret and evaluate student records and transcripts; supervise students in attendance during all educational activities; Observe instruction and provide input to the principal regarding employee performance; Assist the principal in the hiring process; Assist in the organization and administration of professional development; Assist in the development of curriculum and in monitoring its delivery; serve as directed as district liaison to parents, component schools, and community/county groups.
Preferred Experience:
- Minimum of five years of experience as a classroom teacher.
- Demonstrated ability as an educational leader in work with students and staff.
- Experience in working with challenging students and moving them towards success.

- Bring a spirit of enthusiasm, energy, and multi-cultural awareness.
- Possess strong written, oral, and diplomatic communication skills.
- Demonstrate analyze data analysis, implement new strategies, and facilitate effective evaluation techniques.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem-solving, conflict resolution, group planning, diplomacy, and decision-making processes.
- Be student-focused.
- Be proficient in computer applications.
- Prioritize work to meet schedules and timelines. Follow through and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate knowledge and good judgment in matters of agency policy and procedures.
- Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
- Demonstrate ability to make oral presentations before large groups of people.
- Work well without close supervision. Be able to solve problems and manage projects independently.
- Be adaptable in performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
- Be able to work a flexible, extended schedule at a variety of locations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
