QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner’s Program
Experience/Skills
- Demonstrates evidence of progressive nursing experience
- Possesses basic computer skills
- Performs minor office surgeries, applies casts and splints, and sutures lacerations
- Possesses clinical assessment, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
Required Licenses/Certifications
- Registered Nurse licensed by the Indiana State Board of Nursing
- National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- CPR
- ACLS

Patient Care
- Demonstrates the ability to work with adult, and geriatric patients
- Obtains and documents patient’s medical history
- Identifies health risk factors
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors

Develops treatment plans that include:
- Medication management (opioid and non-opioid)
- Ordering appropriate injection treatments
- Interpreting the effectiveness of injection therapies
- Prescribing conservative therapies (physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, pool therapy)
- Ordering and interpreting imaging studies and labs
- Encourages positive health behaviors for the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease through education and counseling
- Applies standardized care guidelines in clinical practice
- Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling, and referrals to other healthcare professionals and community resources when appropriate
- Treats patients and families with respect and dignity
- Works with collaborating physician and other physicians/members of the health team to plan optimal care for the patient
- Works independently while a supervising physician maintains oversight
- Works with the patient and family to formulate a patient treatment and education plan
- Treats assigned patients, both new and follow-up
- Provides follow-up care, determines effectiveness of the treatment plan, reassesses, and changes the plan as needed
- Appropriately refers patients to outside specialties, i.e., orthopedics and neurosurgery
- Completes documentation that meets all standards and policies
- Documents all findings, interventions, and results
- Always maintains patient confidentiality
- Functions as a patient advocate
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and to function under stressful situations
- Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
- Stays current with medical advancements, new technology, and new drugs through continuing education classes, society meetings, professional journals, etc.
- Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors
- Attends all departmental, organizational and medical staff committee meetings as appropriate
- Works collaboratively with physician to develop and implement specific clinic policies and procedures
- Willingly works with staff members as a team
- Assures adequate patient records are maintained and transferred as requested
- Knows and adheres to the rules and regulations governing the clinic
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
