Job Description: Journeyman Plumber

Position Summary:
A Journeyman Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. They work independently or under the supervision of a Master Plumber to ensure plumbing systems are functional, efficient, and compliant with local and state building codes.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Installation and Repair

   • Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, gas lines, and appliances.
   • Use hand and power tools to assemble and install pipes, fittings, valves, and fixtures.
   • Test plumbing systems for leaks and other issues using pressure gauges or specialized equipment.

2. Troubleshooting

   • Diagnose plumbing issues and determine the best course of action for repair.
   • Identify and resolve problems with water heaters, sump pumps, backflow systems, and other plumbing components.

3. Compliance and Safety

   • Ensure all work complies with building codes and safety regulations.
   • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety protocols on job sites.
   • Obtain necessary permits for plumbing projects when required.

4. Customer Interaction

   • Communicate with clients to explain issues, provide cost estimates, and recommend solutions.
   • Deliver excellent customer service by maintaining professionalism and addressing client concerns.

5. Maintenance

   • Perform routine maintenance checks on plumbing systems.
   • Recommend and implement preventative measures to extend the lifespan of plumbing systems.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Valid Journeyman Plumber license in the state of employment.
• High school diploma or GED; completion of a plumbing apprenticeship program.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, regulations, and safety standards.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various environments (e.g., confined spaces, outdoors).
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Working Conditions:

• Work may include exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, and potential hazards.
• Requires lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
• May require overtime, evening, weekend, or on-call hours depending on project demands.
