Job Summary
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Essential Functions :
Performs specialized health care procedures for designated students following physician orders and established procedures. This includes (but is not limited to) administering breathing treatments, diastat, glucometer testing, insulin injections, glucagon, epi-pens, catheterizations, tube feedings, and tracheostomy care.
Administers medications and specialized treatment as indicated by student's physician
including, but not limited to through injection).
Assists with personal hygiene, toileting and diapering of students as required.
Lifts and assists with physically positioning, transferring, and / or lifting students as required.
Provides a safe and sanitary environment for the students and follows universal precautions at all times.
Reports unusual situations and changes in the student's condition to the district nurse and school administrator.
Documents all procedures, medications, changes in student conditions and response to care in the appropriate record.
Communicates regularly with the district nurse.
Responds to student emergencies and administers first aid / CPR as indicated.
Checks student medical equipment and utilizes equipment appropriately.
Attends staff in-services, meetings and seeks appropriate educational opportunities.
Assists in the supervision and monitoring of students to maintain effective learning and / or safe play / recreational environments; notes behavioral and other problems observed; reinforces designated discipline management program as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the student health services.

Requirements / Qualifications
Education and Experience :
Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of California, including requirement for assisting students with medications. Be willing to have specialized training in designated procedures required of this position.
Licenses and other Requirements :
LVN (Required)
BLS Certification (Preferred)
LPN (Preferred)
Posses and maintain valid CPR / First Aid certifications issued by an authorized agency
Posses and maintain valid California Drivers License

DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the assigned supervisor, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will provide specialized physical health care services for students with medically complex needs. The LVN is responsible for planning and administering student health care safely within the scope of the LVN practice act and under the direction of the credentialed school nurse in compliance with physician's orders. This job classification assists the district nurse and other staff to meet the specialized physical health care needs of designated students
This position is on-call, as needed
