SUMMARY
The role of the pharmacy technician is to support the efficient operation of the medication room by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications under the supervision of the Medication Room Team Leader. The Technician performs routine tasks to help prepare prescribed medication, such as counting tablets and labeling bottles, and administrative duties such as answering phones, stocking shelves, collecting data and preparing reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Helps health care providers and patients by greeting them in person and by phone, answering questions and requests, and referring inquiries to providers
- Ensures medication availability, maintains patient assistant program and purchased medication inventory by
- Checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level
- Anticipating needed medications and supplies
- Placing orders, including expediting orders when necessary
- Verifying medication receipt and documenting in accordance with clinic policies
- Removing outdated drugs
- Organizes medications to be dispensed by reading medication orders, EMR information, preparing labels, calculating quantities
- Maintains a safe and clean medication room complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Maintains records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions
- Distributes medication to patient as ordered and under the supervision of provider
- Maintains biomedical waste program in accordance with regulations and Center policies
- Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
- Assists clinic staff as required, including special projects/assignments
RESIDENT, GUEST AND INTERNAL CUSTOMER FOCUS
The Pharmacy Technician is sensitive to cultural, spiritual and practical needs of resident, families, guests and staff members in all interactions. He/she provides positive feedback and comments about the quality of work and effort that have been offered by patients, residents, families and coworkers, and adjusts priorities and schedules to meet specific customer needs. The Technician reports and/or corrects problems related to safety, cleanliness and comfort of resident, patient and work areas, and follows Universal Precautions and Infection Control techniques. He/she demonstrates an understanding of their role in facility safety plans and procedures related to fire, weather and other disasters.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
- High diploma or equivalent
- Certified or Registered Pharmacy Technician
- 2 years working experience
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and time management skills
- Proficient in computer data entry
- Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
Physical/Mental Demands & Working Conditions:
- Transportation and valid Florida driver’s license
- Ability to work various shifts as required to ensure that health services are adequately administered
- May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day. May sit or stand seven 8 hours per day
- Works in typical clinical office setting
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds
