Hours: Full-time

Summary
The Urban Rest Stop Advocate is responsible for the daily operations of the Urban Rest Stop, including supervision of day center premises and activities, coordinating community showers and laundry, mail distribution, community meal service, resource referrals, and any other activities included in the array of Urban Rest Stop activities. This position requires a mature and professional individual with excellent interpersonal skills, highly developed customer service skills, effective de-escalation and problem solving skills, and the ability to serve individuals experiencing crisis situations in a safe and supportive manner. The Urban Rest Stop Advocate reports to the Urban Rest Stop Manager and works closely with the Urban Rest Stop Manager to ensure the safety and efficiency of operations, and quality of program delivery. The Urban Rest Stop Advocate is responsible for timely and accurate documentation including incident reporting and service counts. The Urban Rest Stop Advocate interacts with clients in a supportive way that fosters both mental and physical health, mutual respect, clear communication and always with the goal in mind for clients basic needs to be met with safety and dignity.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for maintaining order and safety in Urban Rest Stop premises, including the library and deck
  • May supervise and support community meal service and community outreach activities
  • Responsible for coordination of Urban Rest Stop essential functions including: showers, laundry, day services, and mail
  • Distribute toiletries and supplies to individuals utilizing services
  • Assist the public by providing information and referrals to Sulzbacher services and other community resources
  • Maintain a high level of communication inter- and intra-departmentally through the voicemail system, team, department, and all-staff meetings
  • Affirms the integrity and dignity of each client and upholds the mission, philosophy and positive public image of the Center
  • Represent the Center to the public, our guests and volunteers in a positive, customer-service oriented way through the staffing of the Urban Rest Stop desk
  • Acts as an ambassador to all visitors
  • Provides feedback and continuous quality improvement regarding effectiveness, efficiency, and the impact of services to the Jacksonville community
  • Maintains records as required, including but not limited to: service utilization, general maintenance and safety records, and incident reporting
  • All other duties as assigned



Resident, Guest and Internal Focus
The Urban Rest Stop Advocate is sensitive to cultural, spiritual and practical needs of residents, families, guests and staff members in all interactions. He/she provides positive feedback and comments about the quality of work and effort that have been offered by patients, residents, families and coworkers, and adjusts priorities and schedules to meet specific customer needs. The Urban Rest Stop Advocate reports and/or corrects problems related to safety, cleanliness and comfort of resident, patient and work areas, and follows Universal Precautions and Infection Control techniques. He/she demonstrates an understanding of their role in facility safety plans and procedures related to fire, weather and other disasters.

Education and/or Experience
  • Maturity and professionalism as expressed through excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, A.A. degree or higher from an accredited university preferred
  • Minimum 1 year work experience in a social service setting required. Education may be substituted for experience
  • Mental Health, Security or Medical background a plus
  • CPR Certification within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to establish cooperative and respectful working relationships with residents, co-workers, volunteers and visitors to the center
  • Supports and clearly communicates the mission statement of the center
Physical/Mental Demands & Working Conditions
  • Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Physically able to work in a fast paced environment
