What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Advisor position at Sulzer Pumps Inc.?
Summary: Provides leadership and support to all employees on the night shift. Responsible for employee safety, product quality, production costs, productivity, delivery reliability, housekeeping and continuous improvement efforts on his/her shift.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for following and enforcing Sulzer's 6 Safety Rules
- Responsible for staffing and staff development within area of responsibility. Performs personnel management functions: i.e. performance reviews, training plans, coordination of work schedules, including vacations and absences and the review of associated records, complaint resolutions, disciplinary actions and work delegation. Makes recommendations as appropriate regarding hiring and terminating employees within area of responsibility. Provides supervisory and technical coverage and support for night shift..
- Responsible for maintaining production capacity to meet the production goals: including staffing, tooling and fixtures, production equipment maintenance, cost control and routings;
- Provides leadership for continual process improvement and scrap/rework reduction efforts in his/her area. Fosters an atmosphere where all employees can contribute ideas into the continual improvement efforts;
- Participates in Production Control, scheduling and expediting of work in his/her area;
- Participates in manufacturing management systems development, with a focus on lean manufacturing;
- Facilitates compliance with safety programs on night shift and within his/her area;
- Responsible for quality system documentation in his/her area. Facilitates compliance with procedures and work instructions;
- Responsible for 5S implementation and maintenance within area of responsibility.
- Follows quality procedures according to ISO 9001.
- Safety obligations:
- All employees understand and are able to explain the structure and objectives of the SBP.
- All employees follow the safety rules.
- All employees have "the right and duty to intervene" in the event a safety concern becomes evident. In addition, acceptance of an intervention should be accepted in a positive manner as it could have prevented an accident.
All employees are required to comply with all work instructions, policies, and posted signs or instructions regarding safety, including but not limited to proper use of required PPE at all times.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Participates in Capital Expense and Operational Expense planning in his/her area;
- Responsible for implementing Engineering Changes in his/her area;
- Supports inventory and cycle counting assignments;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and supervision to the direct labor production employees during all night shift hours of operation, including during scheduled overtime;
- Provides direction as necessary for the maintenance department during night shift operations;
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or minimum of 5yrs experience in a Manufacturing Environment
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and direct;
- Must have good communication skills and strong organizational abilities with orientation to details;
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office products, knowledge of SAP a plus;
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to perform standard office physical activities including but not limited to long periods of time in the seated position and long periods of time viewing computer monitors.
- Must be able to lift objects weighing up to 50lbs (excess of 50 lbs, use of slings, hoist or cranes required)
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time (typically 50% of shift duration)
