The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.
Description of Job:
As the Engineering Manager at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for advancing strategic and tactical engineering, maintenance, wastewater and controls solutions to maintain, correct, and improve plant operations. You will provide leadership and development of engineering best practices and standards, as well as conformance with site safety, environmental, and quality programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure equipment is operational and functionally acceptable to meet the needs of manufacturing, utilities and wastewater.
- Manage the on-going engineering, maintenance, and controls review, problem solving, and troubleshooting of plant and wastewater systems and equipment.
- Oversee the operation of the Central Utilities Building and proactively identify opportunities for unit operation optimization and cost reduction.
- Drive capital project completion for process improvement and plant expansion.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality programs and procedures.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply advanced theories, methods and research techniques to the investigation and solution of complex technical problems.
- Collaborate across business units to develop standards.
- Ensure development of a solid equipment reliability program with appropriate preventive maintenance, calibrations, and spare parts.
- Oversee the utilization and optimization of the computerized maintenance management system.
- Ensure development and implementation of the mechanical integrity program.
- Enforce utilization of Pre-Start-up Safety Review process.
- Remain current on engineering knowledge and contemporary industry solutions.
- Develop and oversee the site’s Capital Plan to deliver on continuous improvement or increased supply.
- Perform economic analysis and feasibility studies for the installation of new equipment or facilities and/or modification and revision of existing equipment and facilities.
- Develop and review cost estimates, consult with other department managers regarding proposals for capital expenditures, facilities repairs and revisions.
- Provide technical assistance and information to corporate engineering and outside consultants, contractors, vendors, suppliers and various departments within the company.
- Participate and/or assist other engineers in the design of process equipment or systems for optimum performance.
- Oversee implementation and maintenance of IT and controls solutions that support day to day operations, as well as facilitate data retrieval for process troubleshooting and improvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
- Demonstrated competence and progressive technical experience.
- 10 years related experience with at least 7 years leadership experience.
- Project Management experience.
