Purpose and Scope of Job:
The primary focus is 12 - 18 months of training with different departments within SMA in order to gain familiarity with the different engineering support functions and key processes. The successful conclusion of the training program will be a permanent Application Engineering position and career path to ESV or Aftermarket.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Create written quarterly evaluation and feedback of training reports.
- Attend and complete Power Transmission Fundamentals, Bearings, and Bulk Material Handling classes.
- Attend training at HIT (Belgium) and SHI (Japan) to learn WinCarat, VSS, and other calculation programs; understand overseas and technical support; and gearbox assembly.
- Partner with sales team to establish relationships with strategic customers and distributors and learn the needs and expectations for key industries.
- Attend training with SMA’s Aftermarket Team to learn gearbox inspection and failure analysis.
- Attend training with Customer Support to learn technical support and reducer selection.
- Additional projects in Engineering as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical)
- Prior SMA internship preferred
- Working knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D Modeling (Inventor preferred)
- Strong communications skills; both verbal and written.
- Good decision-making and problem-solving abilities based on analytical / statistical approach.
- Must be able to perform a considerable amount of travel (50%-75%)
- Must have or ability to obtain a passport
- Knowledge of Project Management either through experience or classes.
