The anticipated salary range for this role is between $146,000.00 and $160,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

The Capital Leverage & Management Function manages the U.S. capital position of SMBC Americas Holding ("SMBC AH") and its major subsidiaries. This function provides support to senior management and other business stakeholders in the Strategic Planning Department, Americas Division (“SPDAD)”. U.S. Treasury reports directly to the U.S. Chief Financial Officer (“U.S. CFO”).

The function is responsible for a comprehensive capital management framework that incorporates setting targets, monitoring/managing current capital levels, and performing SMBC AH stress testing in partnership with risk management department, head-office stakeholders, and key front office personnel. Additionally, the capital management team is responsible for ensuring an effective and efficient use of SMBC U.S. Operations balance sheet with a goal of improving return on capital measures for the Americas Division.

Role Objectives: Delivery

Lead capital management strategy, policies, and guidelines in line with head office principles and directives as well as U.S. regulatory expectations. Developing and executing complex analytical processes. Ensure the U.S. region’s solvency position and risk management strategy are managed appropriately to maintain long-term targets while supporting operational and business requirements. Develop a reporting data flow based on company policies and procedures for a risk-based capital framework and inform the head office on solvency impacts, including stress tests, dividend planning, and overall capital/solvency strategy. Manage short- and long-term capital requirements, including all corporate finance activities to improve capital deployment and returns. Responsible for drafting executive summaries for capital plan and resolution plan in anticipation of future IHC formation. Author, review, and update relevant policies relating to either treasury fields such as capital management policy, capital distribution framework, and PPNR models. Use data to support conclusions and craft rationale for forecasts and document to SR 12-7 and SR 15-19 standards.

Role Objectives: Interpersonal

Partnership and Collaboration Skills: Partner with finance and client-facing units to understand capital needs. Strong communication skills required to negotiate internally. Ability to influence without authority to guide and convince others, including members of own team and colleagues in other areas of the bank. Work closely with auditors and regulators to better understand their concerns and reduce potential compliance issues. Collaborate internally with risk management to optimize risk taking. Network within the industry through meetings, events and involvement with trade organizations to explore different funding options and capital management best practices. Collaborate to develop forecasting processes to enable entity, business, and regional views of both local and global financial resource consumption and constraints. Lead and produce senior management ready reoccurring and ad-hoc packages for CUSO Treasurer, U.S. CFO and other key stakeholders inclusive of financial results, peer comparisons, what-if analysis with regards to new initiatives and/or new business; and

Role Objectives: Expertise

Demonstrate a deep understanding of the regulatory concerns / obligations for capital management to ensure compliance. Display an advanced knowledge of the company's operations and requirements to optimize capital costs. Exhibit solid experience with the markets and current trends to optimize capital management. Utilize a working knowledge of accounting and legal affecting operation to circumvent unintended consequences. Be proficient with information technology to better gather and manage data. Demonstrate advanced analytical / quantitative skills to optimize financial results. Communicate analytical and regulatory issues effectively.

Qualifications And Skills

7 years of working experience in financial industry in Finance, Treasury, or Risk departments – prior experience in CCAR/DFAST is preferred;

Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, mathematics, computer science or related field, Master’s degree preferred; and MBA/CFA/FRM/CPA or other professional qualification highly preferred;

Manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and plan/prioritize appropriately;

Lead and drive initiatives through creative thinking and pragmatism;

Excellent writing skills, previous experience in drafting corporate policies or procedures is highly preferred;

Outstanding analytical and problem solving skills;

Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Basic experience in Python, R, SPSS, and/or SQL
