The anticipated salary range for this role is between $103,000.00 and $158,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Objectives: Delivery
The Compliance Data Governance Operations Associate is a fast-paced role collaborating with subject matter experts across Compliance to assess data sources, identify control gaps and analyze data quality. This individual executes controls, and documents results to capture and track data quality issues contributing to the Compliance team's strategic transformation goals through continuous data quality improvement. They produce clear and easy to understand relevant reports and dashboards, visualizing data quality trends and data usage used for decision making by data and functional owners. This individual contributes significantly to data quality measurement and ensuring data's sustainable used by Compliance functions.
This is a junior to mid-level role in the Compliance Department Americas Division (CPAD) Data Governance team. This individual is focused on defining business terms and applying the data governance framework to document key data elements and controls. They are expected to support data governance adoption by researching and documenting data lineage, data element definitions and issue management resolution. The individual uses various reporting and BI tools to analyze and identify trends. The role supports all areas of Compliance across the Americas and interfaces heavily with Compliance SMEs, Data Management, Technology oversight (CoE), Technology and key data owners throughout the Americas Division (AD).
Responsibilities:
- Establish criteria to perform data profiling, work with technology teams to document data elements
- Document key data element definitions, socialize results, coordinate data profiling and publication.
- Work closely with subject matter experts, data providers, data consumers to establish data quality rules to maintain the integrity of the data.
- Assess data control environment, map data lineage, identify gaps and plan remediation.
- Create supporting materials for discussions with subject matter experts, data owners and audit.
- Assemble front to back data governance packages for review and sign-off with subject matter experts and data owners.
- Prepare reporting for publication.
- Research and develop processes to enhance and report data quality and controls.
- Support adoption and implementation of data governance policies.
- Update and maintain project plans.
- Escalate data issues as necessary; ensure issues are addressed and closed.
Qualifications and Skills
- Requires 2 - 5 years of comparable or relevant experience. Prefer 2 years in the Data Governance space.
- Require High school education or equivalent. Prefer BA / BS (or equivalent experience)
- Some knowledge of Compliance, BSA / AML is a plus.
- Prior usage of data governance tools to manage data elements, definitions, and lineage.
- Knowledge of data governance methodology and experience how to document data quality exceptions.
- Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with stakeholders and teams
- Experience reviewing and implementing data controls. Experience measuring and assessing data quality to identify and remediate data control gaps.
- Experience with SQL or reporting tools. Solid MS Excel and PowerPoint Skills. Experience with data mapping and tools to select / review data sets from a database as required.
- Strong reporting and visualization skills to illustrate results and simplify complex problems.
- Strong skills writing requirements, test plans and procedures, documenting completion and exceptions.
- Able to work across multiple sources, synthesize results and present detailed validations.
- Meticulous attention to detail and demonstrated ability to produce high quality, accurate work consistently.
