Department Overview:

The Americas Division (“AD”) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (“SMTBNY”) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the “Global Banking Unit (“GBU”), Americas Division” and “Global Markets Unit (“GMU”), Americas Division” which performs business functions. The Human Resources Department (“HRD”) provides services and guidance to the Bank in order to attract, retain, motivate, employees who will provide high quality services. In addition to the department’s daily operations, guidance and direction is provided to Head of Departments and Senior Management in order to maximize efficient use of human capital while protecting the Bank from employment-related legal risks.


Position Overview:

The temporary Human Resources Generalist (“HRG”) is responsible for assisting in supporting the Bank on HR issues, such as talent acquisition, workforce planning, succession management, performance management, and employee relations. Providing departmental administrative support. Responsible for ensuring Bank policies are implemented and performed.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develops partnerships with business area managers and employees to best provide HR-related services to the business area with respect to the Branch. Partners with senior HRD staff to assist staff and develop initiatives for staff.
  2. Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with senior HRD staff and the Legal Department, as needed.
  3. Supports the development of a staffing and recruitment plan for each business area. As needed, recruits for open positions, revises job descriptions, job titles, etc. Assists with employment termination processing, as necessary. Delivers new hire orientation materials to new hires.
  4. Assists the HRG to provide day-to-day performance management guidance to business area managers, including but not limited to coaching, counseling, career development, promotion nominations, and performance improvement plans.
  5. Assists with administrative tasks, data entry, and event day-of coordination.
  6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in human resource management or its equivalent with 2 years of related experience.
  2. Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  3. Experience with ADP Workforce Now preferred.
  4. Excellent interpersonal skills, good oral and written communication skills.
  5. Good detail orientation, organizational, and multitasking skills.

The anticipated salary range for this role is listed above. The specific salary offered to an employment applicant is based on the individual’s qualifications, experiences, the job responsibilities, an analysis of the current compensation paid for similar roles in the local geographic area, and key distinctions of the job as compared to current jobs in the Branch.

Salary : $30 - $60
