What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursing Student Technician - Family Medicine Center position at Summa Health?
Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care, under the direction of a Registered Nurse and administrative/clerical support. In medical office setting: rooms patients, takes and records vital signs and collects specimens.
Formal Education Required
- Must be enrolled as a full time or part time student in an accredited associate degree or bachelor degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation, OR must be enrolled as a full time or part time student in a licensed practical nursing program and have completed the first two clinical rotations.
- Proven ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions and perform basic mathematical functions
- Must complete Summa’s orientation
- Current BLS-HCP card upon hire and maintained thereafter
- Ability to work well within a team environment: by accepting and offering honest and constructive feedback; by supporting team goals and encouraging other team members; and by collaborating with patient care members to consolidate work, solve problems, create new methods and/or reduce costs

- Shows flexibility/adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands placed on services as is common with changing reimbursement and managed care targets
- Ability to stand/walk for extended periods of time, frequent pushing, pulling and lifting of patients, cleaning equipment, and materials
- Ability to provide necessary care for patients (i.e. neonate/newborns, children, adolescents, young adults, middle-age adults, and geriatric adults) as required by position
- Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
- Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
- Exposure to blood and body fluids and sharps; risks to falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc.
