About Summer Discovery

Our mission is to provide best-in-class, immersive summer college enrichment experiences that perfectly balance courses curated by top tier universities in diverse fields of study, with opportunities for students to have fun, travel and explore new places with new friends.

We support students in their mission to deepen their knowledge of their academic passion and foster college-ready confidence through hands-on learning experiences in their preferred field of study. We are the industry trailblazers, applying nearly sixty years of learning, refinement and relationship building into what we do each day.

Simply put, our team is obsessed with summer and determined to help our students excel, building lifelong skills, embracing intellectual curiosity, innovation, and a love of learning.

What’s the job?

We are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and innovative Community Manager to join our team and help build, nurture, and engage with our online communities across various social media platforms (i.e. Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, etc.). The ideal candidate will have an innate demonstrated passion helping high school students maximize their extracurricular time to achieve their future college and career goals, and an understanding of the culture, motivations and trends happening with high-achieving Gen Z students and their parents.

The Community Manager will have a strong understanding of digital marketing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage and grow online communities in an authentic, responsive, and proactive way. As the Community Manager, you will serve as the bridge between the brand and its audience(s), regularly coming up with creative ideas and ensuring that our content resonates with followers. You’ll manage day-to-day interactions, foster positive relationships, and create a sense of community around the brand.

This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that you will work 2-3 days a week either from our Long Island office or in Manhattan, and the remaining days can be worked remotely. While the role is primarily hybrid, you will also be asked to travel occasionally for meetings, trainings, and summer campus operations.

Key Responsibilities

Community-Centric Community Engagement & Execution:

  • Produce content that resonates with both students and parents by understanding and l their unique needs, preferences, and emotional drivers. Leverage expertise and thought leadership to stay ahead of trends and deliver what resonates with these audiences—empowering students with aspirational, relatable content while addressing parents’ concerns with educational value and long-term benefits.
  • Create and manage interactive content (e.g., polls, challenges, contests) that encourages community participation, managing the entire process from concept to execution.
  • Provide expert guidance on which new social media channels to explore, advising on emerging platforms and strategies to enhance our digital presence.
  • Develop and execute channel-specific content and strategies by tailoring messaging and formats for each platform (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat etc.), ensuring maximum engagement, relevance, and alignment with brand values.
  • Proactively plan, create, and manage a content calendar that aligns with the overall community and marketing strategies for each platform.
  • Develop and implement content strategies that empower brand ambassadors to share their personal stories and experiences with the brand in an authentic and relatable way.
  • Execute a variety of content types, including social media posts, blogs, videos, infographics, newsletters, polls, and user-generated content (brand ambassadors, influencers, thought leaders, etc.).
  • Actively engage with social communities through comments, direct messages, and replies to ensure the brand maintains an active and authentic presence.
  • Build content requirements for seasonal social campaigns and develop plan to secure content

Summer Content Collection & Brand Ambassador Initiatives:

  • Create a comprehensive social content strategy for capturing dynamic and relevant content throughout the summer across multiple schools, ensuring its adaptability for use in both the current and upcoming marketing calendar year.
  • Be on site at select campuses during the Summer season to collect content
  • Assist in the management of the on-site content residential counselors and ensure they deliver photos and video content according to the plan and that it is high quality
  • Create guidelines and best practices for brand ambassadors, ensuring consistency in messaging, tone, and visual representation.
  • Foster strong, long-term relationships with brand ambassadors, providing them with regular feedback, incentives, and support to keep them motivated and engaged.
  • Organize and facilitate virtual or in-person meetups, events, or content collaboration sessions to strengthen ambassador relationships.
  • Plan and execute virtual events, such as webinars or Q&A sessions with brand ambassadors, that drive content creation and foster deeper community engagement.
  • Collaborate with on-campus teams to identify and onboard new brand ambassadors who align with the brand’s values and target audience.
  • Ensure that all ambassador content aligns with the brand’s narrative, values, and mission.

Performance Tracking / Trend Monitoring:

  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs), such as reach, engagement, shares, and conversions, to evaluate the effectiveness of content strategies across channels for both student and parent audiences.
  • Prepare regular reports to share insights and recommendations with the broader marketing team.
  • Stay up to date on the latest content trends, social media best practices, and emerging influencer marketing tactics.
  • Analyze competitor campaigns to identify new opportunities for brand ambassador content creation and engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated work experience working in-house with a brand or corporation creating content or managing social communities
  • Demonstrated experience in creating, curating, and managing content across multiple platforms (social media, blogs, websites, video, etc.).
  • Experience executing and managing content campaigns, particularly those involving brand ambassadors or influencers.
  • Deep understanding of how to craft platform-specific content (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.) and optimize for engagement.
  • Proven ability to foster and manage online communities or brand ambassador networks, driving engagement and brand loyalty.
  • Strategic thinker with experience in crafting content strategies that align with marketing goals and resonate with different audience segments (specifically students and parents).
  • Proficient with creative designed tools for Social Media platforms (i.e. CapCut, InShot, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma, Sprout Social, Meta etc.) to plan, produce and track content performance and community engagement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience driving alignment across diverse stakeholders and teams.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing communications, journalism or relevant field.
  • Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to present a portfolio with sample work.
  • Willingness and desire to travel to summer programs between late June – early August to capture original, authentic content.

We offer a comprehensive suite of benefits including: medical, dental, vision, Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), Flexible spending benefits, and a 401(k) Retirement Savings. You’ll also accrue paid vacation and sick leave

Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory employment background check.
