Tree Farm Arborist
Position Overview: Oversee all aspects of tree farm pruning operations to improve appearance, structure, health, and value of trees to be grown for sale in Summerhill's nurseries. Prune or treat trees or shrubs using handsaws, hand pruners, clippers, and power pruners. Works off the ground in the tree canopy and may use truck-mounted lifts. Assist in IPM operations at Summerhill's nursery, working with the team to identify pests, diseases and abiotic conditions that may affect tree health.
- Develop, implement and execute year-round pruning schedule designed to maximize appearance, structure and health of all nursery grown trees.
- Develop and implement plan to cultivate topiary pruning regimen for select trees, including pleaching, pollarding, table-top and espalier pruning techniques for select plant material at the nurseries.
- Ensure pruning conforms to all ANSI-A300 pruning standards, and established, sound arboricultural practice.
- Supervise others engaged in tree trimming work and train lower-level employees in sound arboricultural practices.
- Ensure safety and protection of all involved in pruning operations is executed to the highest standard, including overseeing weekly tailgate training sessions and necessary training in best practices for safe pruning operations.
- Plan and develop budgets for tree work. Coordinate with the Tree Farm Manager with the estimation of maintenance service requirements or costs.
- Operate boom lifts, loaders, chippers, tractors, power saws, trucks, sprayers, and other equipment and tools.
- Climb trees, using climbing hooks and belts, or climb ladders to gain access to work areas, as necessary.
- Clean, sharpen, and lubricate tools and equipment.
- Hoist tools and equipment to tree trimmers, and lower branches with ropes or block and tackle.
- Load debris and refuse onto trucks and haul it away for disposal, or processing at the tree farm.
- Spray trees to treat diseased or unhealthy trees, including mixing chemicals and calibrating spray equipment. Prepare chemicals for work application.
Assist nursery operations team as necessary in times of high demand. Tasks may include loading, digging, providing supplemental water, fertilization, and additional tree farm maintenance

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
