Position Description

Job Summary :

Summers-Taylor, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Class 1 Mechanic to join our team. As a Class 1 Mechanic, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient functioning and maintenance of our fleet of heavy equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of heavy machinery, along with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues. This is a first shift position and could be at the Summers-Taylor Shop or in the field on any given day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical issues in heavy equipment and vehicles
  • Perform routine maintenance and preventative services
  • Repair and replace defective parts and components
  • Ensure worker orders are completed timely and efficiently
  • Ensure preventative maintenance schedule is consistently met
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and inventory of equipment and supplies
  • Maintain required records of hours / materials expended for each job
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

  • 2 years trade or vocational school required
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in general maintenance in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent focus on safety and quality
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to communicate to all levels of the organization
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Strong trouble-shooting abilities in order to quickly determine plan of action
  • Knowledge and ability to operate tools of the trade
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements to perform duties and responsibilities of the job, including heavy work with exposure to inclement weather
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
