SUMMARY / PURPOSE

The Grants Manager, reporting to the Chief Development Officer, is responsible for securing and managing institutional funding to support Summit Academy OIC’s mission. This role oversees foundation and corporate grant activities, including researching prospects, writing proposals, and tracking grant lifecycles. The Grants Manager collaborates with internal staff and the Chief Development Officer to align funding opportunities with organizational priorities and develop an annual institutional fundraising plan.

Grant Writing & Management (80%)

  • Lead all aspects of grant development, from research and proposal writing to submission and compliance.
  • Identify and pursue institutional funding opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to gather data, program details, outcomes, and develop budgets for grant applications.
  • Manage proposal timelines, ensure timely submissions, and coordinate with leadership on funder engagement.
  • Oversee reporting requirements, ensuring accurate tracking of grant outcomes and financial compliance.
  • Maintain relationships with funders through updates, reporting, and strategic communication.
  • Manage external vendors supporting proposal production.

Fundraising Planning & Prospect Development (15%)

  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to develop an annual institutional fundraising plan.
  • Conduct research to identify and qualify new institutional funding prospects.
  • Maintain a pipeline of funding opportunities to support revenue planning.
  • Prepare briefings, presentations, and coordinate site visits.
  • Process & Data Management (5%)

  • Maintain accurate records of funder interactions, including but not limited to proposal submissions, reporting deadlines, meeting notes, and contact information.
  • Streamline grant management processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Understanding of the intersectionality of workforce development, education and poverty.
  • Ability to synthesize information, ideas, and data from multiple sources into a cohesive, persuasive document.
  • Ability to lead and complete projects accurately and within deadlines.
  • Understanding of fundraising ethics.
  • Excellent presentation, collaborative and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with strong initiative, excellent problem solving ability, perseverance and follow through, and ability to work independently.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt quickly to rapidly changing priorities.
  • Expert level experience in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficient with relational databases, Salesforce preferred.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. This position is performed primarily in office, with the possibility of some remote work hours dependent upon approval of the supervising manager.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The incumbent must spend long hours sitting, using office equipment and performing computer operations, which requires intense mental and visual concentration and eye hand coordination. The incumbent is required to deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.

    POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). It is not eligible for overtime pay.
  • May require occasional evenings, weekend and early morning work hours as needed to meet business needs.
  • Schedule details and schedule flexibility will be discussed in the interview process.
  • TRAVEL

    This position may require limited local travel.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, Non-profit Management or an equivalent field; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated successful grant writing experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of demonstrated successful grant management experience.
  • Proven prospecting, cultivation and stewardship experience.
  • Knowledge of Minnesota’s philanthropic sector and trends.
  • Willingness to embrace Summit’s mission, vision and values.
  • PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 6 years of grant writing experience.
  • 3 years of successful grant management experience.
