Job Summary
Lives and works with residents to develop life skills for independent living.
Essential Duties
•Develop positive relationships with residents to engage and encourage the development of life skills.
•Provide emergency first aid and summon medical assistance when necessary.
•Mediate interpersonal problems between residents.
•Communicate with other staff to resolve problems with individual residents.
•Counsel residents in the handling of issues such as family, financial, and educational problems.
•Make regular rounds to ensure that residents and areas are safe and secure.
•Manage maintenance requests; determine the need for facility maintenance and repair, notify appropriate personnel; ensure that maintenance is scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
•Collaborate with staff to plan and schedule weekend activities.
•Provide support and handle escalated resident’s issues using de-escalation techniques and other strategies.
•Maintain the confidentiality of residential health information; ensure staff provide residential support while maintaining their confidentiality.
•Provide opportunities for residents to learn, practice, and master skills that allow them to participate more fully in social, school, and work activities.
•Participate in meetings and training as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
•Pursuing bachelor’s degree or master’s in psychology, Social Work, Education, or related field.
•Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, relationship building, and teamwork.
•Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing.
•Other Skills and Abilities: Able to quickly respond and adapt to challenging, fast-paced, dynamic environments; strong planning and organizational skills.
•Active Listening- Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
•Learning Strategies- Select and use training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors
•Physical activity is a regular part of this role.
•Often sitting/standing for extended periods.
•Moderate lifting from 15 – 30 pounds.
•Ability to use physical restraint on residents, but only in an emergency to prevent injury and only if the aide has been properly trained.
•Travel for weekend activities and as a backup for the Driver.
Salary : $17 - $20
