Position Summary
The team is seeking experienced Network Engineer for Summit Broadbands' Service Provider network. This position is responsible for researching, designing, and deploying IP technologies across a wide variety of network vendors and applications. A successful candidate should have a deep understanding of Service Provider-related technologies such as: IP Routing Platforms and Protocols. They should also have a good understanding of common business/financial drivers and be capable of considering those impacts when developing strategies. The ability to be self-driven and multi-task several complex projects are also key attributes for a successful candidate.

Engineers have a knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks, networking protocols and services including STP, VLANS, ERP (G.8031/2) MPLS L2/L3, DIA, VPLS, IPVPN, ISIS, BGP, OSPF, and DDOS.
Candidates should possess excellent communication skills and should be able to perform in-depth troubleshooting of all network issues that arise, often communicating directly with vendor technical support and high-level customer contacts.
The best candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of various vendors including Juniper, Nokia, and Ciena. The primary function of the Engineer is to sustain network health, engage in break-fix escalations, design and implement new deployments. The Engineer will also be responsible low-level design for Commercial Services to include SD-WAN, Manage Services, Site to Site VPN, and Security Services.

Responsibilities
- Network Designs: The candidate will be responsible for new market designs for both residential and commercial network aggregation. Plan, implement, and document installations of network equipment. Design, install, and support the routing, switching, and security/VPN technologies in the WAN/LAN environments.
- Technical Escalation: The primary function of the Engineer will be to serve as the highest level of technical support, serving as a technical escalation point. Engineers will be responsible for engaging the vendor and high-level customer contacts routinely.
- Network Heath and Visibility: The candidate will play a key role in driving network capacity monitoring, link and node level failure scenarios, and traffic engineering.
- Network Fault Management: The candidate is expected to perform fault isolation and repair of Ethernet and IP platforms, particularly on outages or escalated issues.
- Vendor Management: Collaborates for vendor related issues & escalations. Review Vendor Bulletins, publish impact statements and create plans for implementation of bulletins if applicable and best interests of the company. Track open issues with vendor to resolution and provide regular readouts an open vendor issues and recommendations for upgrades or replacement of vendor technologies.

- Ideal Candidate has a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year university or technical school
- Experience in collaborating with various departments to create financial models, business cases, and presentations based on complex network designs to influence future designs.
- 5 - 10 years of service provider experience
- Experience with designing, configuring, and troubleshooting complex networks
- Experience in BGP and IGP routing protocols to include IS-IS, MPLS, Segment Routing and OSPF in a multi-vendor environment
- Experience in VLAN technology, VTP, and STP protocols
- Experience in Access Control Lists, firewalls, VPN, and other security technologies
- Solid understanding of Ciena Ethernet platforms
- Familiarity with 1G, 10G, 100G, metro Ethernet and dark fiber technology
- Working knowledge of Commercial Products and Services
- Functional knowledge of cable standards including multi/single mode fiber
