Rhetoric Teacher in History, Part-time (Faith-based Homeschool Collaborative)

Summit Christian Academy is seeking a passionate and qualified Upper School Rhetoric Teacher in History (part-time schedule) to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a classical and engaging learning environment for students in 9th-12th grade to foster a love of learning for what is true, good and beautiful. Our Upper school courses are delivered using a university model. Our teachers teach all of the content in 2 class days a week over the 32 weeks, and homework is assigned for at-home days.

We love Socratic teaching and theological understanding of the world around us through history! In our Logic School (7th-9th grade), we use Veritas Press’s Transitions to World History through primary source documents and literature. There is s student textbook and 8 literature pieces to understand our history from Christian perspective that we were made with a purpose by God. In our Rhetoric School (9th-12th grade), we use Classical Historian to learn US History and World History, which is understood through primary source documents, a student textbook and Socratic discussions. If you love bringing the past to life and helping students to understand how the past applies to today, and how God has been sovereign throughout eternity, then this is the job for you!

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan and deliver engaging and effective lessons aligned with the school's curriculum and learning objectives. Implement pacing guide and maintain assignment posts in the online platform. Enter lesson plans and assignments into Gradelink.
• Foster an organized, respectful and Christ-loving classroom environment that focuses on the good, true and beautiful.
• Create a positive and supportive culture that believes in home discipleship and loves encouraging homeschool families.
• Consistently exhibit spiritual maturity and be a role model of Christian love, faith, truthfulness, and virtue, both in the classroom and in your personal life.
• Have a thorough knowledge of and interest in the subjects assigned to teach
• Differentiate instruction to support all students who show up prepared and wanting to learn.
• Assess student progress regularly and provide constructive feedback.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
• Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding student progress and school events.
• Maintain accurate student records and comply with all school policies and procedures.
• Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
• Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support student learning and school initiatives.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and other extracurricular activities as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred
• 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in the age/subject you are teaching
• Excellent classroom management and organizational skills
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for working with children and a commitment to student success
• Proficiency in using technology in the classroom
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
• Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
• Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Preferences:

• Strong understanding of Classical Education & homeschool experience preferred
• Teaching certification not required.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Rather, it is a general description of the basic tasks the incumbent will be normally required to perform and be evaluated upon. In addition, it is expected that the incumbent will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines set in place by the Executive Director.
• Pay for this position is based on $50.00/hour as starting pay. Actual pay rates will be determined based on a combination of experience, education, skills, and other factors directly related to the job. The incumbent will receive a compensation offer that defines the hours worked to support the school schedule, to include compensation for hours spent teaching, planning, and for other assigned activities.
• A typical teaching schedule is Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00AM-2:55PM, which usually includes four, 80-minute class periods and planning period. This is a typical schedule and is subject to change.
