Description

Position Summary: 

Under the general supervision of the Dental Director and QI Dental Coordinator, the Dentist is responsible for administering, maintaining, and expanding a program of primary (and in selected cases, secondary) care and preventive dental care in a community health center setting. The Dentist works closely with the QI Dental Coordinator to provide consistent supervisory guidance to dental staff, especially in clinical matters.

 

The Dentist is responsible for diagnosing and treating oral health conditions, performing preventive and restorative dental procedures, and educating patients on proper oral hygiene. They examine patients' teeth and gums, interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans to maintain or improve dental health. Additional responsibilities include performing extractions, fillings, crowns, and root canals and supervising and training dental assistants. Strong communication and patient care skills are essential to ensure a high standard of care.

 

This role aligns with the principles of Access, Stewardship, and Quality (ASQ) to deliver comprehensive and patient-centered care. The Dentist will ensure accessible services for all patients, promote responsible resource management, and champion high-quality, evidence-based care that prioritizes patient well-being and long-term oral health.

Essential Functions: 

  • Perform quality clinical and radiographic evaluations to diagnose and treat oral cavity diseases.
  • Promote oral health by providing educational information on all preventive and restorative dentistry phases and oral hygiene.
  • Provide preventive and restorative dental treatment.
  • Review and follow all dental clinic protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Document and follow treatment plans that include appropriate preventive and restorative therapy.
  • Manage medical and dental history to evaluate the patient’s general health comprehensively.
  • Address all contraindications pertaining to treatment and identify the patient's chief complaint or reason for the visit.
  • Maintain baseline and other radiographs necessary to diagnose and outline a treatment plan.
  • Maintain necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements.
  • Develop treatment plans for School-Based Health Center visits.
  • Help train dental assistants in the Dental Assistant Training Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Grants are vital to Care Clinic revenues and directly or indirectly support all positions. This role may have responsibilities that are closely associated with grant deliverables. Grants and grant responsibilities may change over Time.
  • Complete all the required training as designated by HR and the position supervisor.
  • Oversight of projects and tasks assigned by the COO and Dental Director.
  • Adhere to all policies within the organization and those outlined within the SCCC Employee Handbook.
  • Comply with all SCCC Vaccine Mandates.
  • Willingness to travel and work at other SCCC locations as determined by the supervisor.
  • Comply with all applicable Credentialing and Privileging requirements in a timely manner.
  • Embrace the SCCC Mission and Vision and agree to work within the SCCC Guiding Principles and the principles set by the position supervisor.
  • Must participate in quality assurance/ improvement activities when applicable.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:  

 

Must Haves to be successful:

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited program.
  • Unrestricted DEA license.
  • Active Colorado dental license.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting, preferably within a non-profit organization.
  • Proficiency in digital systems, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across all levels, including core business partners and staff, while ensuring clear patient communication.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings and driving action-oriented outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess situations, interpret data, and make evidence-based decisions.

 

Nice to Haves:

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • 2-5 years of clinical experience as a practicing Dentist.

 

Work Environment:

The work environment in a healthcare setting can be fast-paced and involves working directly with patients and healthcare professionals. The environment is primarily a clinical setting, but the individual may also work in a clerical setting.
