Project Estimator

Summit Design Build is actively seeking an experienced Project Estimator to join our dynamic team in Chicago, IL. This role is crucial for supporting and collaborating with our management, operations, and estimating teams on a variety of significant construction projects. Responsibilities:

• Manage bid organization, strategy, proposal review, pricing, and fee structure.
• Analyze drawings and specifications to create accurate estimates and proposals.
• Provide detailed quantity take-offs and pricing for various project components including earthwork, utilities, concrete, masonry, steel, and all MEP systems.
• Collaborate with the bid team to prepare accurate bid proposals and final estimate assembly for client presentation.
• Solicit, organize, and negotiate subcontractor bids, ensuring they meet contract documents.
• Maintain relationships with subcontractors and vendors, including prequalification and proper documentation.
• Review project documents and prepare value analysis suggestions.
• Maintain unit pricing and database for material and labor costs.
• Formulate cost breakdowns from estimates and meet with clients to discuss service options.
• Assist in managing the Estimating Coordinator and handle other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in budgeting/estimating for a commercial general contractor.
• Knowledge of the Chicago/regional subcontractor base.
• Experience with standard construction concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Conceptual and hard bid experience.
• Strong negotiation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment.
• Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure, especially with bid deadlines.
• Self-starter capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Office, Project, Gradebeam (or similar), and On-Screen Takeoff.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Comfortable with learning new technology.
• Professional, efficient, honest, flexible, and reliable.

Salary Range: $90k - $120k per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
