Scope :

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) shall provide comprehensive nursing care to students with disabilities, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and managing chronic health conditions. Implement individualized healthcare plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Educate students, staff, and families about health issues and promote wellness initiatives within the school community. Ensure compliance with health regulations and maintain accurate health records. The LPN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans to optimize outcomes. The LPN will report to the building administrator and will be clinically supported by the worksite medical provider. The LPN must adhere to established policies, procedures, standards of nursing practice and within the scope as governed by the Missouri State Nurse Practice Act.

All healthcare services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles, regulations, best practices and ethics of the profession.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide nursing care to students including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and assisting with daily activities.
  • Assist students with personal hygiene, mobility, and other activities of daily living.
  • Observe students ' conditions and report changes to RNs or medical providers.
  • Educate students and families about health maintenance and disease prevention.
  • Coordinate and implement a plan for health screenings.
  • Provide basic first aid, infection control procedures, dispense medication, and other services as needed.
  • Administer medication and other health care procedures.
  • Follow proper nursing procedures and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Seek out and use community health service resources.
  • Ensure documents are completed correctly and all necessary supplies are available.
  • Utilize each student’s individual communication system.
  • Accurately complete required reports on or before established deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Collaborate with building administrator to maintain an orderly, safe, clean environment.
  • Maintain CPR certification.
  • Maintain confidentiality of parent, student, and staff personally identifiable information.
  • Perform comprehensive physical assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
  • Monitor student’s condition and document observations accurately.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure student’s needs are met.
  • Educate students and families about health conditions, treatments, and preventive care.
  • Collaborate with medical team as needed.
  • Coordinate nursing care and prioritize tasks as needed.
  • Maintain all health records in accordance with privacy laws, medical protocols and policies.
  • Properly respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Ensure student safety through adherence to infection control practices and other safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Comply with all applicable Summit Healthcare Solutions standards and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
  • Qualifications :

  • Graduate of an accredited LPN school.
  • Current unrestricted LPN license from the State of Missouri.
  • Current unrestricted multistate LPN license.
  • Two (2) years of clinical LPN experience.
  • Active Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Ability to understand instructions furnished in written and oral forms of English.
  • Proficiency in the use of basic Microsoft word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelors’ degree from an accredited school.
  • Five (5) years of clinical LPN experience.
  • Certifications (e.g. phlebotomy, Intravenous therapy (IV) wound care etc.).
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Routinely performed in an interior clinic / office environment.
  • May involve sitting for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require standing and walking for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 pounds.
