About the Job:
The Vice President of Nursing Services is responsible for providing leadership, strategic direction, and operational support for nursing services across the company’s Acute and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment facilities. This role is accountable for the high-quality care delivery through the development, evaluation, and oversight of clinical practices, compliance efforts, and workforce development initiatives. Additionally, this role oversees behavioral health technicians ensuring integrated and comprehensive patient care. The VP of Nursing Services collaborates closely with facility leadership and clinical teams to promote the adoption and use of evidence-based practice, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement across all locations.Roles and Responsibilities:
Promote a culture of patient safety, accountability, and continuous improvement in all nursing operations
Provide oversight and guidance to nursing leadership teams across all company-operated facilities, ensuring excellence in patient care and nursing operations.
Oversight of evidence-based, patient-centered clinical programs for behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment.
Assist in reviewing and evaluating facility-level nursing issues and concerns, offering strategic and operational solutions.
Partner with facility leadership to enhance nursing performance, implement evidence-based practices, and improve patient outcomes.
Monitor key clinical metrics and operational efficiencies to drive improvements in care delivery and patient safety across all locations.
Work collaboratively across a matrixed environment with operations, division leadership, medical, nursing and clinical services directors to ensure seamless integration of clinical /nursing and operational functions.
Assists in tracking and trending key care delivery metrics and supports identification of issues/opportunities for improvement, proposing solutions to address/improve these practices.
In coordination with the Quality and Patient Safety department, set expectations, develop plans and manage processes to assess, measure and improve the quality of nursing care at assigned facilities.
Holds nursing leaders accountable for the implementation of corrective action plans and supports resourcing for the development of tools to assist with sustaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Conducts reviews of staffing practices to ensure facility staffing is appropriate to the population in treatment, operational efficiency and to support nurse retention.
Collaborates with IT to ensure proper system workflows and data collection related to electronic health records providing insight into the nursing and operational activities.
Oversee the development of training material for orientation of nursing leaders and training opportunities, professional development and continuous learning related to care delivery throughout the company.
Supports the onboarding and professional development of nursing leaders within the company, fostering a culture of leadership excellence.
Identify and implement ongoing training initiatives to enhance nursing leadership capabilities and clinical competencies.
Serve as a mentor and resource for nursing leadership, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and quality standards.
Review facility execution of standards of care to ensure compliance with regulations pertaining to nursing, such as nursing leadership oversight, staffing, assessment and reassessment, medication management and infection control.
Stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes, providing guidance to nursing leaders on maintaining compliance and advancing clinical practice.
Support facilities in regulatory audits, surveys, and performance improvement initiatives.
Serve as a key liaison between corporate leadership and facility-based nursing delivery teams, facilitating communication and operational alignment.
Works collaboratively with facility staff, physicians, nursing risk management and other leaders to address clinical and operational performance improvement and safety issues as identified.
Work cross-functionally with Quality, Compliance, and Operations teams to identify, prioritize, and drive initiatives that enhance patient safety and quality of care.
Serve as clinical leadership representative at senior leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning efforts at the corporate level.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN), required. Master’s degree in healthcare or business administration preferred.
Eight years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferably in inpatient behavioral healthcare or SUD treatment settings.
Registered Nurse (RN) with an active, unrestricted license.
Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) or equivalent certification preferred.
Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other quality improvement frameworks preferred.
Leadership and strategic planning.
Operational acumen, including expertise in managing complex [multi-site] healthcare operations, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance management.
Experience with TJC/CARF/CMS behavioral health standards required.
Strong background in regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice.
Proven experience mentoring and developing nursing leadership at multiple locations.
Change management and conflict resolution expertise and ability to lead and manage organizational change initiatives.
Exceptional problem-solving, communication, and team-building skills
The ability to manage complex operational and clinical challenges.
Experience in conducting complex patient care/safety investigations in healthcare setting
Ability to work professionally with sensitive, proprietary data & information while maintaining confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals at all levels; both internal and external.
Exercises sound judgment in responding to inquiries; understands when to escalate inquiries to the next level.
Self-motivated with strong leadership, management and organizational skills with superior attention to detail.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously within inflexible time frames. Ability to adapt to frequent priority changes.
Capable of working within established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the organization.
Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office; especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Willingness and ability to travel extensively across the organization’s multi-state footprint.
