Lead Radiology Tech- Full Time, Day Shift

General Position Summary:

This position is accountable for the quality of imaging services delivered within outpatient surgical services.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:  Radiology Technologist

·         Promotes professional development within delivery of care:

o   Maintains clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area worked as demonstrated through annual validations.

o   Participates in and attends internal and external educational in-services for continuing/ongoing education of radiation regulatory guidelines and procedures.

o   Utilizes evidence based practice or research within clinical practice.

o   Actively participates in performance/quality improvement processes, including the monitoring of dosimetry badges for all ASC staff and surgeons.

o   Interacts and participates in the education/orientation of ASC personnel and students, of radiation exposure, and use of equipment.

o   Acts as a resource person to the staff to if proper use of lead and dosimetry badge placement.

o   Conducts quarterly PM on all lead brought into the facility, documents findings, and ensures replacement of lead if needed.

o   Works directly with Materials Manger on order correct imaging supply.

o   Ensure proper documentation of Fluoroscopy time for all surgery center patients.

·         Operates all radiographic equipment and assists physician to obtain the best quality imaging result for each specific patient.

·         Exhibits knowledge of normal and abnormal pathophysiology.

·         Maintains proper collation and identification of various forms of imaging archival systems used in the surgery department.

·         Maintains proper sterile technique during procedures.

·         Communicates caring, concern and respect to patient, family members, peers, and physicians.

·         Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

·         Reports equipment malfunctions and documents immediately.

·         Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment, reports/documents occurrences involving patients, and attends safety in-services.

·         Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

o   Assists Director and Educator with developing and implementing a training and evaluation plan for all RTs.

o   Assists Director and Educator with ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of an orientation plan for new hire Coordinates and evaluates orientation of all newly hired technicians.

o   Acts as a resource person to the staff to insure quality patient care imaging performance, and to meet expectations for accrediting agencies

o   Participates in the Radiology Committee.

·         Exhibits knowledge of normal and abnormal pathophysiology.

·         Maintains proper sterile technique during procedures.

·         Records key events occurring during procedures and enters use of supplies via physiologic computer system.

·         Communicates caring, concern and respect to patient, family members, peers, and physicians.

·         Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

·         Reports equipment malfunctions and documents immediately.

·         Follows safety standards in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/removes unsafe equipment, reports/documents occurrences involving patients, and attends safety in-services.

·         Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the Shine Behavior Standards.

Supervisory Responsibility:

·         Oversees the functions of Radiology Technologists.

• Persons/entities from other hospital departments and locations.

• Contain confidential/sensitive information necessitating discretion at all times.

Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:

This position also requires general office equipment (including telephone system, fax machine, copy machine, computer, and commonly used hospital programs) as well as excellent communication skills, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, supervisory, interpersonal skills, basic math skills, and ability to exercise independent judgment skills.

This position requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment. 

This position requires knowledge of imaging equipment and procedures, general surgical instruments and techniques as well as excellent computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, leadership, supervisory, interpersonal skills, basic math skills, and be able to exercise independent judgment skills when necessary. 

Persons working in this position are required to function in a self-motivated manner and to be self-directed. 

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Education and/or Experience:

• High School diploma or equivalent (required).
• Current AZ State License (required).
• CPR Certification (required within 30 days of hire date).

·        

o   Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) (Required)

o   Five (5) years of Radiologic Experience

Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

Exerts up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting, walking or standing for periods of time.  The worker is subject to overtime, on-call status, contact with chemicals, contact with infectious fluids, heavy lifting, constant standing, computer work, and encounters with upset/disturbed individuals.

Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, stooping, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, kneeling, grasping, listening; hearing, handling, lifting up to 50-100 pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

This is considered a safety sensitive position.

OSHA Exposure Category:

Involves exposure to radiant energy, blood, body fluids, or tissues.

This position has intermittent exposure to high-risk activities and conditions. High probability of contact with radiant energy, infectious materials, blood, body fluids and the possibility of more serious injury.
