General Position Summary:
Responsible for telemetry monitoring within the central monitoring station, of all adult patients on the inpatient units requiring telemetry monitoring; confirms the initiation and discontinuation of monitoring with the nurse upon admission/discharge/transfer; performs ongoing monitoring of those on cardiac monitors; communicating significant changes of patients’ cardiac parameters to the RN caring for affected patient.
Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:
· Ensures compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.
§ System access is limited to the inpatient census screen, printing inpatient labels, and the ability to upload and review telemetry strips in one content.
§ Accessing any patient information beyond this is prohibited.
· Communicates cardiac rhythm or rate changes directly to the registered nurse caring for the patient. If the primary nurse is not available, the information will be communicated to the NCL.
· Communicates battery changes, lead placement, or non-emergent questions to the PCT caring for the patient or the HUC.
· Communication with healthcare staff is pertinent and concise.
· Provides continuous cardiac monitoring of telemetry patients during scheduled shift.
· The patient demographics are verified with the HUC.
· Obtain rhythm strip and place on patient’s telemetry record within one hour of start of shift or patient arrival to unit, with any rhythm change and every six hours while monitoring continues.
· Alarm/Arrhythmia notifications set specific to each patient.
· Notifies and reviews any change in cardiac parameters and rhythms with nurse caring for patient.
· Identifies lethal arrhythmias, notifies RN immediately, documents in the medical record.
· Discontinues monitoring upon transfer or discharge; suspend monitoring or complete discontinuation.
· Completes a chart check every shift to ensure that all telemetry strips from the prior shift were uploaded correctly to one content. Works with IT to make corrections as appropriate and documents any corrections or additions made to one content.
· At NCL direction, may be asked to assist in trouble shooting telemetry equipment or assisting with battery changes and lead checks which may require going to patient rooms and direct patient contact.
· Maintains, stores, and assigns telemetry equipment for incoming admissions.
· Works directly with biomed for timely testing of equipment and tracking of repairs.
· Communicates with department lead regarding equipment par levels.
· Maintains department paperwork; telemetry log.
· Notifies each department via vocera anytime they leave the monitor room and upon return to the monitor room (breaks, lunch, etc.).
· Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.
· Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.
Secondary Functions:
· Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.
· Attends annual trainings and keeps EKG certifications up to date.
· Participates in primary unit’s goals and metrics.
· Reviews department and association wide policies and procedures annually.
· All other duties as assigned.

· This position requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment.
· This position requires basic computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
· Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
BLS/CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire)
EKG Training (required within 60 days of hire)
1 years in a clinical setting (preferred)
Physical Demands & Job Conditions:
Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Worker is exposed to extensive computer work.
