General Position Summary:   

Responsible for telemetry monitoring within the central monitoring station, of all of adult patients on the inpatient units requiring telemetry monitoring; confirm the initiation and discontinuation of monitoring with the nurse upon admission/discharge/transfer; perform ongoing monitoring of those on cardiac monitors; communicate significant changes of patients’ cardiac parameters to the nurse caring for affected patient.  

Essential Functions / Major Responsibilities:

• Ensures compliance with HIPAA policies and procedures.

• Communicates pertinent information to the registered nurse.

• Provides continuous cardiac monitoring of telemetry patients during scheduled shift.

• The patient demographics are verified with the RN assuming care.

• Obtain rhythm strip and place on patient’s telemetry record within one hour of start of   shift or patient arrival to unit, with any rhythm change and every six hours while monitoring continues.

• Alarm/Arrhythmia notifications set specific to each patient.

• Notifies and reviews any change in cardiac parameters and rhythms with nurse caring for patient.

• Identifies lethal arrhythmias, notifies RN immediately, documents in the medical record.

• Discontinues monitoring upon transfer or discharge; suspend monitoring or complete              discontinuation.

• Maintains department paperwork; telemetry log.

• Displays proper etiquette and mannerisms that reflect the SHINE Behavior Standards.

• Promotes the Patient Safety Standards as a core value of the organization.

Secondary Functions:

• Participates in departmental and association wide informational meetings and in services, including staff meetings, association wide forums, and seminars.

• Reviews department and association wide policies and procedures annually.

• All other duties as assigned.

Contain some discussion about confidential/sensitive matters.

Are usually made via telephone, Qliq, Vocera, or text.

Are usually with patients, with unit nursing staff.

Specific Job Skills & Mental Activities:

• This position requires the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience to perform in a  diversified acute care setting. 

• This position requires knowledge of hospital equipment and programs, including all Hospital Information Systems and department specific equipment. 

• This position requires basic computer, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. 

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Competencies:

90 days

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)

BLS/CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire)

EKG Training (required within 60 days of hire)

1 years in a clinical setting (preferred)

Physical Demands & Job Conditions:

Sedentary

Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 

Involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Worker is exposed to extensive computer work.

Physical motions include finger dexterity, standing, walking, talking, reaching, feeling, sitting, bending, grasping, listening/hearing, handling, lifting up to five pounds, and repetitive motions of the hands, wrists, and feet.

OSHA Exposure Category:

OSHA Exposure Category 2

Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but may require unplanned tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue.
