SENIOR CORPORATE ACCOUNTANT

The Senior Accountant works under the direction of the Director of Accounting on all accounting functions of a publicly traded hospitality REIT.  The ideal candidate for this position would be a self-motivated, hands-on accountant with at least 4 years of experience and a control focused approach, an attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities include the following:

• Preparation of corporate accounting areas (including property taxes, debt, restricted cash, insurance, etc)
• Assist with data gathering and preparation of cash forecasts for corporate entities
• Prepare accounting journal entries related to non-recurring transactions and month end close
• Resolve intercompany discrepancies and present balance explanations to corporate tax team
• Assist with quarterly tie out process of SEC filed reports
• Increase productivity by developing automated applications; eliminating duplications, coordinating information requirements
• Interact and communicate with property manager accountants frequently to coordinate activities and resolve problems or issues that arise on a monthly basis
• Provide fixed assets purchase information to third-party consultants to determine use tax payment requirements
• Prepare budget reports. Review and analyze general ledger and budgetary information and coordinate the explanation of budget variances
• Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers and other accounting and finance related professionals
• Complete adequately designed and appropriately executed controls to comply with Section 404 (SOX) requirements

Qualifications

Education and experience requirements:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience
• Audit experience preferred
• Public company experience preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a forward thinking ‘can-do’ attitude
• Extensive account reconciliation experience
• Analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Ability to multitask and a team focused approach
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially working with Excel spreadsheets
