Position Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy in bookkeeping, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel (Office 365 tools, pivot tables), and CRM databases, as well as keen attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple financial tasks efficiently. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial management within a nonprofit or ministry setting and must align with Summit’s faith-based mission, vision, defining values, and beliefs. This is an on-site, FTE role with the potential for flexible scheduling.


Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate financial records, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and restricted funds.
  • Process payroll, vendor payments, and financial transactions promptly and efficiently.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and financial accounts regularly to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for review by the CFO and Executive Director.
  • Ensure compliance with all standard accounting practices, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements, including tax filings and audits.
  • Maintain relationships with banks, auditors, and external financial partners for routine financial matters.
  • Send invoices by the 10th of each month

 

Budgeting & Forecasting Support

  • Assist in the annual budgeting process, collecting financial data and input from program managers.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and prepare variance reports for leadership review.
  • Support the maintenance of financial forecasting models by updating relevant data.

 

Compliance Support & Reporting

  • Assist in preparing and submitting tax filings and financial documentation to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Compile necessary records and reports to support internal and external audits.
  • Generate reports (Board reports, Executive Director dashboard, lapsed donors, etc) by the 10th of the month.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a nonprofit or ministry setting.
  • Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel (Office 365 tools, pivot tables), and CRM databases.
  • Understanding of financial compliance, tax filing, and reporting requirements.

  • A service-first mindset, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, donors, partners, and guests.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, handling interruptions while maintaining accuracy.
  • A self-starter, taking initiative and ownership of financial processes.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to explain financial information to non-financial staff.
  • Cross-train in other staff roles for flexibility in performing other duties as assigned.


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced accounting professional to contribute to Summit’s mission by ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in all financial operations. This position offers flexible scheduling up to 32 hours per week, with work hours available Monday through Friday.
