Job Title: QA/QC Inspector Substation
Location: Various substations throughout the United States
Job Description:
The QA/QC Inspector for substations will ensure that all construction and maintenance activities meet the required quality standards and comply with industry regulations and company policies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Inspection and Testing:
- Conduct detailed inspections of substation components, including foundations, steel structures, electrical equipment, control wiring, and grounding systems.
- Perform quality control testing and inspection in adherence with contract requirements and company best practices.
- Inspect above and below-ground conduit installations for adherence to plans and specifications.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Review drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications by direct review and by leveraging the knowledge and experience of others in the project team when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of inspection findings and test results.
- Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing inspection activities, discrepancies identified, and corrective actions recommended.
- Ensure all documentation complies with regulatory and company standards.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Verify that all construction and maintenance activities comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC) and local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure adherence to company quality control procedures and safety protocols.
- Verify and document that all materials received for the project are in conformance with the approved submittal, are handled and stored appropriately, and are acceptable for use in the project.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to address quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate inspection results and quality concerns to project stakeholders promptly and effectively.
- Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up meetings to establish an understanding of the standards of care desired for each definable feature of work.
- Provide guidance and support to construction teams on quality assurance and control best practices.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving quality control processes and procedures.
- Stay updated on the latest industry standards, technological advancements, and best practices in substation construction and maintenance.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure that all activities are performed following environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Participate in safety audits and provide recommendations to enhance site safety.
Requirements:
- Education: Associate or bachelors degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in QA/QC roles within the electrical utility industry, preferably with a focus on substation and renewable projects.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), OSHA, & CPR/First Aid.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical and civil engineering principles, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective communication, and interpersonal abilities.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in using inspection tools and software, and familiar with quality management systems.
- Platforms: Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and applicable safety software. Experience in Procore is desired.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including inclement weather.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Willingness to travel to different substation sites as required.
- Capacity to work in high-voltage environments with strict adherence to safety protocols.
