Summit Medical Center is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our In-patient Care Team. Position is available at our Edmond hospital, on an as needed basis.

Position Summary:
Provides professional nursing care for assigned patients in medical and/or surgical units according to established procedures.
The staffing of Summit Medical Center is based on a teamwork concept. Employees may be cross trained in other clinical areas and may be expected to perform duties other than their normal ones as staffing and patient needs change.
Responsibilities:
- Orients, instructs, and trains assigned personnel.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintain good employee relations, as well as interdepartmental objectives.
- Performs a variety of nursing administrative duties.
- Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
- Prepares patients for scheduled procedures to assist in patient assessment.
- Monitors medical condition of patients and reports changes to appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patients comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
- Assists physicians with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Writes initial nursing histories, assesses patients conditions, and develops individual care plans for patients assigned to the unit.
- Assists attending physicians as needed.
- Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with hospital standards.
- Consistently completes required number of charts audits each month.
- Performs other nursing duties as assigned or requested.
- Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment.
- Maintains established center/departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when violations occur.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient and center related business.
- Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, and visitors.
- Documents concisely, precisely, and accurately on all medical records or documents as indicated by policy. Maintains all required reports, records, statistics, etc.
- Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and center business.
- Understands and maintains clinical competencies (general, age specific and drug administration.)

Qualifications:
- Associate degree.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Oklahoma.
- Sufficient previous clinical experience in medical and surgical nursing.
- CPR certification.
- Current BLS certification; ACLS required within one year of employment.
- ICU and/or ER experience.
Special Skills and Knowledge:
- Nursing care of the postoperative patient.
- Operation of vital signs monitors.
- Assessment Skills.
- IV Therapy.
- Principles of Standard Precaution.
- Performs yearly glucometer competency.
