Job Details
The Summit Medical Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit team.
Unit Overview
- Hospital: Summit Medical Center
- Unit Name: PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
- Number of Beds: 630 has 34 beds, 633 has 25 beds
Patient Ratios and Staffing
We maintain patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights. Our unit staffing consists of:
- 3 techs when full on 630
- 2 techs when full on 633
Equipment and Technology
We utilize advanced equipment including:
- Bipaps
- High-flow oxygen
- Vapotherm
- Alaris pumps
- Cardiac drips
- Heparin drips
- Insulin drips
- Peritoneal dialysis
- Wound vacs in conjunction with wound care
Scheduling Requirements
Our scheduling requirements include:
- Every other weekend requirement for contract
- 3 12-hour shifts per week
Floating Policy
You may be required to float between PCU units or to med-surg floors.
Patient Experience
To ensure excellent patient care, we require:
- Hourly rounding on days
- Every 2-hour rounding on nights
- AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank) communication
- Maintaining up-to-date communication boards on the 7th floor (Dept 633 has TV communication boards)
Job Requirements
To succeed in this role, you must possess:
- Critical thinking skills
- EKG rhythm interpretation experience
- Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Peritoneal dialysis experience (preferred)
- Peripheral IV skills
- Advanced skills in ACLS
- Experience with bipaps, high-flow oxygen, and multiple oxygen delivery systems
- Experience with stroke and post-cardiac cath care
- Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes
Schedule Information
Our schedules are 4 weeks long, and contracts require working every other weekend.
Unit Specific Information
Please note that the unit does self-scheduling. Techs will assist in caring for patients and providing support.
Additional Details
This unit has a strong 'care like family' culture and promotes great teamwork among staff members. Most travelers extend their stay after completing their initial assignment.
