Job Summary
The Medical Lab Scientist performs moderately to highly complex and specialized clinic laboratory tests and analyses of human blood, urine and other body fluids, tissues or substances to obtain data for use in the diagnosis, management and treatment of disease and injury. Specific areas of discipline include chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, immunology, toxicology and urinalysis.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed above, all employees are expected to support the Summit Pacific Medical Center mission, vision and values; comply with SPMC policies and procedures; and conduct themselves in an ethical, professional, respectful, and collaborative manner at all times.
Required Education And Experience
Current technologist-level certification/registration by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent Optional- Washington State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within 3 months of hire)
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Current working knowledge of medical laboratory science and ability to understand and apply clinical laboratory science practices. Basic knowledge of blood banking. Ability to perform laboratory functions including, but not limited to, body fluid cell counts, hematology manual differentials. urine microscopies, and gram stains.
Ability to effectively and accurately evaluate results; ability to recognize unlikely results and troubleshoot potential causes.
Knowledge of quality control practices and documentation, including Westgard rules. Proficient in the use of current technology. Ability to learn and effectively use electronic medical records and other systems and equipment. Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation and records. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate and work effectively with providers, other health care professionals, managers, and patients. Ability to work independently and perform a wide variety of assignments that require the use of independent judgment, problem-solving, organization, prioritization, and interpersonal skills.

SVC Contract 12 hour shifts in a 40 hour work week

Job Summary

Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Accurately orders, prepares and processes specimens for on-site testing or for sending to reference laboratory according to SPMC Laboratory Policies and Procedures. *Records and evaluates results in order to provide physicians nursing and additional ancillary departments the information necessary to select appropriate treatment. Evaluates all results for reasonableness and accuracy before verifying. Recognizes and reports abnormal, critical or alert values after evaluation of test results and specimen integrity. *Ensures timely service to support high-quality patient care. Identifies emergency or STAT situations in order to maintain the laboratory's responsiveness to life threatening patient situations participating with coworkers, evaluating workflow and prioritizing responsibilities to provide effective patient care. *Operates and maintains laboratory instruments. Performs and documents quality control, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on all assays and instruments in the laboratory in accordance with CAP and CLIA regulations to help ensure testing accuracy. Verifies performance through appropriate use of standards, controls and calibrators. Contributes to department operations by assisting with writing and reviewing procedures, training, inventory management, new test development and equipment selections, and participates in departmental and hospital quality assurance activities. Performs special projects and other related duties as assigned.

- One (1) year of related laboratory work experience preferred.
