What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher/Childcare Provider position at Summit School?
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Integrate all Summit School values and philosophies into classroom time.
- Supervise and monitor children at all times.
- With direction of Lead Teacher, follow The Creative Curriculum lesson plans, which reflect mandated elements, parental and cultural influences, and promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children.
- Follow a consistent routing, which includes small and large group experiences, choice time, music and movement, large and small motor activities, skill development, meals, and effective transitions between activities.
- Assist with child observations and assessments.
- Encourage experimentation, exploration, problem solving, cooperation, socialization, and choice-making; ask open-ended questions and listen respectfully to the answers.
- Provide an atmosphere that promotes and reinforces parental involvement in the classroom.
- Respond to crisis or emergency situations that may occur. Provide first aid or CPR, prevent the spread of blood borne pathogens, and access emergency services as needed.
- Complete annual continuing education training hours as required by licensing.
- Maintain a clean and sanitized classroom
Curriculum Development: Under the guidance of Lead Teacher
- Prepare classroom materials to support lesson plans; change and create learning centers as needed.
- Adapt curriculum to address and meet individual goals for the classroom and children as identified in their unique learning needs.
Miscellaneous
- Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities.
- Assure general maintenance and security of the facility.
- Assist in inventory of all site equipment.
- Other duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Two-year degree preferred with 9 units in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.
- Minimum of a half-year experience as an Aide.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood developmental philosophy.
- Ability to assist or create a child centered learning environment using creative and hands on methods of instruction.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Demonstrate success in working as a member of a team.
- Must be dependable, punctual, organized, hard-working and engaging.
