Job Description Summary:
Under general supervision of a licensed provider, as a Surgical First Assistant, one must be comfortable seeing and handling blood and perform clinical duties at the ASC (ambulatory surgery center) and within the operating room. We are seeking motivated individuals who show excellent communication skills. Must be able to problem-solve and multitask as we are a fast-paced practice. Gain skill and knowledge of organization policies and procedures in support of the department.
This job is a PRN position at Summit Spine & Joint Centers that reports to the Operation Directors that will be compensated on a case-by-case basis. This position’s primary location will be at the Augusta clinic.
Responsibilities:
- Communicating the surgeon’s preferences and specific patient needs to surgical team
- Positioning the patient to provide the necessary exposure for the procedure, as well as the surgeon preference
- Providing intraoperative skills such as visualization, trocar insertion, injection of local anesthetics, hemostasis, tissue handling, placement and securing of wound drains, and closure of body planes
- Having knowledge of and using all open equipment necessary for a procedure
- Proficiency in technical skills required during a surgical procedure, including, but not limited to clamping, cauterizing, suturing, suctioning, inserting, injecting, manipulating, retracting, cutting, and ligating tissue as necessary
- Utilizing appropriate wound closing techniques including suturing, stapling ectara according to surgeon preference, to close the incision at the end of the procedure
- Providing skills in patient care such as applying dressings to surgical wounds, transfer of patients from OR bed to stretcher
- Collaborating with others to provide continuity of care
Skills And Abilities:
- Must be willing to travel to other locations
- Must be available during scheduled case hours from 3pm-5pm
- Must be responsive and comfortable with seeing and handling blood
- Meticulous and Detail-oriented
- Strong spatial reasoning skills
- Education And Experience:
- 1-year Surgical First Assist experience preferred
- Associate degree in allied health field OR Bachelor’s degree in a health-related science.
- Preference will be given to those that graduated from an accredited surgical first assistant program
