We have an exciting opportunity for an RNG Lead Operations Technician based in Clinton, ME, offering a $6,000 sign on bonus!
POSITION SUMMARY
This role provides an opportunity to play a key part in the operation of a vital renewable energy project in Maine. The Lead RNG Operations Technician is responsible for the full range of operations and maintenance duties at the Clinton facility and surrounding farms.
The Lead Technician (Lead Tech) will have a deep understanding of facility processes and will be able to make informed process control decisions to improve and optimize operations. The Lead Tech will also assist in scheduling, training, and mentoring technicians at the facility. A successful candidate must be a team-oriented professional who projects a positive attitude and actively promotes the Summit Safety Culture.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead day-to-day operations and maintenance of the plant, working with mechanical and electrical equipment, including mixers, pumps, compressors, gas purification systems, and pipelines.
- Direct and oversee the technician team, ensuring that daily maintenance tasks are completed and properly documented.
- Train and mentor less-experienced technicians on facility conditions, equipment, and operating/safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with company and project-specific health and safety requirements; participate in monthly safety audits and inspections.
- Respond to alarm conditions; diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve digester and plant malfunctions. Assist other technicians in responding to alarms.
- Achieve and maintain Operations Qualification (OQ) certification in accordance with company standards, passing required written tests and field evaluations.
- Maintain administrative records, including logbooks, equipment manuals, spare parts inventory, and compliance documentation.
- Operate motor vehicles and/or off-road vehicles on undeveloped terrain as needed.
- Participate in the on-call assignment rotation as soon as possible after hire; work overtime as needed, including call-outs, weekends, and holidays.
- Ensure job sites remain clean and safe, following proper safety practices.
- Support, assist, and oversee third-party contractors, ensuring they follow safety protocols and align with Peaks' safety culture.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the facility’s Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manual and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Mechanically inclined with experience in pumps, mixers, motors, valves, compressors, and piping
- Minimum of 12 months experience operating a biogas or RNG production facility
- Minimum of 12 months experience in a leadership role
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- A technical degree in an electrical or mechanical field is preferred, or equivalent work experience in electrical, instrumentation, control, and mechanical systems (including equipment such as motors, blowers, controls, and pumps).
- Experience with gas compression and/or gas transportation.
- Strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration and maintaining positive relationships with partners and contractors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and basic computer skills.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to multitask across multiple projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with internal teams, project partners, and vendors, as well as completing required documentation.
- A strong work ethic, demonstrating initiative and adaptability to ensure successful facility operations.
- A commitment to safety principles and a proactive approach to learning and implementing best practices.
The position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations and Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy and is, therefore, subject to all terms of the Policy, including the random selection for drug testing.
