Overview
We are seeking a Child Psychiatrist at SummitStone Acute Care at Longview to help provide physician oversight and continuity on our Adolescent Unit (8 beds for adolescents aged 12-17), opening in the Summer 2025.
This role involves conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing psychotherapy or medication management to help young patients cope with issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, substance use, eating disorders, and behavioral problems. The Child Psychiatrist will work closely with families, schools, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and positive outcomes for each patient.

What You’ll Do :
As a Psychiatrist on our new Adolescent Unit, you will provide direct professional services in the evaluation and treatment of clients, aged 12 to 17 years old, in acute care, short-term residential environment. Longview opened in December 2023 as a collaboration between Larimer County and SummitStone - we provide comprehensive, collaborative, and multidisciplinary care for mental health and substance use.
The primary focus of this position will be behavioral health, substance use and physical health, as it relates to the inpatient setting. Major responsibilities of this position include : diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental health disorders in children and adolescents. This role involves conducting thorough psychiatric evaluations, developing individualized treatment plans, and providing psychotherapy or medication management to help young patients cope with mental health issues.
This role includes teaching and training students and residents as well as collaborating with others care givers on the medical and therapy teams.
This role could be expanded to provide support and coverage for adult clients on our other units (16 bed crisis unit, and 16 bed withdrawal management unit). The role could be part-time, or potentially full-time if you were also willing to participate in the care of adult clients on other units (16 bed crisis unit, and 16 bed withdrawal management unit).
Compassion, strong communication skills, and a deep understanding of adolescent development are key to success in this role.
Education and Experience :
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited university with additional post-graduate training in psychiatry.
- More than four years of experience working in a related field required with target population.
- More than two years of experience in treating and servicing persons with substance use and mental health needs preferred.
- Understanding and commitment to Medication Assisted Treatment and harm reduction principles required.
- Strong understanding of substance use treatment and knowledge of withdrawal management processes preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be evaluated and considered.
