What You’ll Do:
We are hiring for a Competency Restoration Provider to work within our broader Competency Team which includes case management, medication management, therapy, psychiatric services, and peer services. The purpose of the Outpatient Restoration Program is to provide competency restoration education services to individuals involved in the criminal justice system and deemed by a court to be incompetent to proceed.
- Location: Fort Collins, Colorado
- Status: Full-time, 40/hrs. week
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Competency is a legal construct that refers to an individual’s current capacity to function meaningfully and knowingly in a legal proceeding. If individuals are found to be incompetent to proceed, they are referred to competency restoration treatment. Restoration treatment can happen in three settings: inpatient at a psychiatric hospital, in a jail-based restoration program or outpatient in the community. Outpatient restoration makes it possible for individuals to stay in their communities, maintain housing, remain connected to their natural support system and continue their employment while going through treatment.
The SummitStone Competency Team partners with many key partners including Chief Judge Blanco, Public Defender’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, Criminal Justice Alternatives, Bridges of Colorado, and the Office of Civil and Forensic Mental Health.
Position Summary:
The Restoration Provider will provide services in both group and individual settings and will be primarily responsible for documentation and state reporting.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinates a wide variety of services for clients to receive benefits from internal and external service providers regarding housing, social security, etc.
- Provides assistance and coaching to client/consumers with daily life activities such as bill paying/managing finances, expense tracking, completing applications for services, and other needs which may include acting as client’s Social Security payee.
- Educates consumer/client on behaviors to maintain daily life activities.
- Interacts regularly with federal, state and local entities to create opportunities to deliver services to client/consumer. Represents clients/consumers with these entities to get services, amend services, or re-instate services.
- Perform case management services as needed to assist clients to meet their goals as stated in their service/treatment plans. Refer clients/consumers to supportive services such as vocational, medical, social security, housing authority, etc.
- Assist consumers in improving their well-being and quality of life by coaching in behavioral skills; educate consumers to make informed choices; develop clients coping skills; help consumers to problem solve and negotiate tasks of daily living.
- Facilitate groups.
- Documents progress reports, case management notes, letters, faxes and phone calls. Maintains all required paperwork for payee ships.
- Maintain close and cooperative relationships with community agencies and other public agencies and private business such as landlords and banks in carrying out supportive services.
- Advocate for consumers in many different forums including at the federal, state and local court systems, with family, school system etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree (i.e. in social work, human services, or related field)
- 1-3 years minimum of directly relevant experience in the Mental Health Field, Substance Use Disorder Field
- Experience with mild to severe mental illness and substance use disorders
- Experience in coordinating services with other agencies
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in social work, or other human services / health-care related field.
- Bi-lingual / bi-cultural
Some positions include driving a company vehicle and require a valid Colorado driver’s license.

The typical hiring range for this position is $24.04 - $28.85/hour, based on relevant years of experience.
